4800.00 for 3 day gun hunt + 450.00 guide tip (includes videoing, cleaning, processing and you’re allowed 1 trophy and 1 management buck)

does that include any trophy size deer? or, do you owe more once you break a certain score?

That gives you the opportunity to shoot a trophy(125+) and management(<125) buck.

That would make it 10 times worse. I would be nervous about my shot, about the size, age, yada, yada, yada

At first, I wasn't even going to shoot at one. Over the course of the weekend, my host convinced me I should. Lots of considerations including: he had lots left in two categories(management and trophy), he thinks the genetics are poorer there than many realize combined with the rut makes bucks look younger than they are.

The one I drew on was not going to be a penalty, but even if it did result in one, it would have only cost him further deer, not enough of one to get into the money penalty.

Islands usually have more sand so the top end potential isn’t as good as on the mainland. The mainland seldom reaches the potential because of accessibility, pressure, poaching, etc.

I cancelled this morning. I’m not wealthy by any means, but I have saved up 5k to hunt Giles Island, but all the talk about even stricter criteria has me worried. I’m not gambling 5k to kill a 120” deer. I’ll wait another year or two and see if they lighten the restrictions and if bigger deer are being killed out there. Thanks everyone for the info.

Yeah, if it was the only $5k I'd be spending on a hunting trip anytime soon it wouldn't be there.

I understand the cost because theres plenty of guys that would rather do that then go to the midwest or something of that nature, plus the business clients that hunt there.

But if you have the time, personally I'd go hunt the midwest somewhere. Hell you could find a nice spot in a lesser known state like Indiana or Nebraska and do a rut hunt for $2000-2500 plus $500 tag and some travel expenses. All in for $3500 or so and have a great shot at seeing multiple 140+ deer and getting a shot at one.

Kind of what I was thinking. I may keep my name on the bow hunt list since that is much more reasonable, but no way am I paying over 5k to gun hunt 120” deer. That’s just crazy. You can kill a 160+ for 5k on many different ranches in Texas, I just really don’t like high fence hunting, no matter how many acres the ranch is.

To each his own, but sitting over a corn feeder in Texas or overlooking a cornfield all day in the Midwest doesn't compare to the hardwood bottoms along the ms river

It's the experience

I wanna say McMillan is around 5500. Assuming you are talking about the Kansas place with the tv show.
