Any way they can do studies and narrow that time frame down so that people can prepare? Is that something society on the Gulf Coast could even prepare for?

Legit wondering.

Unfortunately not. Because it will fail in a catastrophic event. Such as the Floods of 1973 or 2011. Except they will be even higher next time around. Basically we will wake up one morning during a record flood event, and the ORCS will be gone. The I-10 bridge over the Basin will be washed away and 10,000 people in Morgan City will have 6 feet of water in their homes.

Then, a saltwater wedge will come up the river to New Orleans. And barge and river traffic will come to a halt. And the largest tonnage port system in the world will no longer function. Entire nations will begin to go hungry for lack of US grain coming out of US Midwest. And, about 2 million people will have to move out of South LA from BR to Nola. Because they will not have fresh drinking water.

All of this will happen over just a few months. And it will happen. It's just a matter of when.

Dam , you make some very valid points. The engineers I spoke with had hoped to dredge enough to get the velocity back so some natural scour would greatly help the process. You have to forgive my ignorance as I barely graduated high school , but truly hope a solution can be found very soon.

2011 was pretty damned scary. Many folks moved valuables to Natchez.

Vicksburg and Natchez will triple in size. Gulfport will absorb most of what goes through NO.

There’s a reason why Natchez was a prominent location....and it came WAY before cotton.

We may not be alive when it happens but if and when it does it may be well worth the wait for whoever you leave it to.

The city of Natchez has the planned proposal of a new interstate in hand. The new interstate and route selection will follow the El Camino hwy.

The river crossing will be interesting for this project...as Natchez is known for its river view.

I can’t imagine a super Highway crossing the existing bridges....I would think the route would cross north of town instead of south, as previously proposed.

Regardless, Natchez will benefit greatly from the much needed volume.

I just hope it doesn’t shrivel up to nothing before we get there.

Would the National Wildlife Refuge System have any interest?

NWRs have faced big budget cuts. They are severely understaffed

Didn’t MS buy a few hundred acres a while back to make it public? Another river property with public access would be great.
