I mean I know the assholes do exist. A good friend of mine got a ticket from a game warden while fishing for “failure to produce a physical copy of license.” This was right after Louisiana started issuing online purchases. It says on the website you can keep the copy on your phone, which he had and produced to the GW. It was thrown out of course, but he had to take a day off work to take care of it.

I keep a physical copy in my tackle box for this specific reason, just in case I get some jackass looking for a power trip.

This got me thinking about how google tracks wherever the phone goes unless you specifically turn it off (if you have a google account and you’re logged on).

I’m pretty sure I turned mine off after looking at it one time, but I don’t remember how to access it anymore.

Getting old I reckon.

When I encounter game wardens the only thing I ask is, “What would you like to see, sir(s)?”

If they ask if we’re having any luck, repeat “What would you like to see, sir(s)?”

My guess would be that it adds minerals ducks crave.

Yea from my experience down here in south Louisiana, usually if you aren't acting the arse or doing anything blatantly unsafe they usually don't mess with you.

Was camping with the Baws up in Indian Creek couple months back, was having engine trouble from the night before running trotlines and the next morning we were just running the boat to try to figure it out. Couple green jeans came over when we were in the middle of the lake looking at the engine. Super nice guys. They asked if we were ok, admired the custom aluminum boat. Asked about life jackets, whistle etc......... I know in my heart he saw the empty beer cans from the night before in the bottom of the boat. He never said a word, complimented the boat once more and told us to be safe and have a good trip.

Yes, which is why we didn’t argue while sitting in the middle of the river in 40° Temp and hard wind blowing our boats all around. I was told by another game warden it would be a $100 ticket and since I was going to be out of state for my original court date i determined it would be cheaper/easier just to pay it. I will now have to burn a full day driving down and defending myself.

Got checked at Rockefeller a few weeks ago while fishing/crabbing

Dude was nice as could be. Asked if we were having any luck and then the license I told him it was in the boat. Told me take my time he will come back once he checks the other folks. Walked up to our boat and showed him a pic of my license and he said thanks and good luck

Also a shout out to what they have done with that place. The new docks and platforms to fish and crab from are really nice

I hunted near a WMA but not on it, he gave me a ticket for not checking into/out of a wma. This was the day after I hunted and 15 miles away from the wma he mistakenly thought I hunted on.

The most frustrating thing is they won’t let me just pay the bull shite ticket over the phone, they are actually making me go to court over it.

When in court you need to ask him, or have a lawyer ask him, "Did you see me enter of leave a WMA?" Unless what you said is on body cam footage, there is no way he can prove it without visual evidence.

Usually have positive experiences with them.

There was one waiting at the trailhead in Tensas last year when myself and a podnuh came out. We chatted with him a bit and he complimented our ancient archery equipment. I told him I had shot a deer and was going back for it and all he said was "congrats make sure you tag it".

The one duck in our possession was killed the day before. We did not hunt the day we we were checked but we were traveling back to the marina from the camp. I didn’t think twice when they stopped us because I knew we only had 1 duck that was killed legally and really thought the agents were just making small talk. Most of my previous interactions with game wardens were similar to some of the other posters and generally positive.

It was obvious these agents were out strictly to harvest revenue in the easiest most comfortable way possible rather than doing their job actually protecting wildlife and serving the public. Instead of actually patrolling the WMA they were assigned to protect they chose to hang out 15 miles away and just make assumptions on who they thought was breaking their “rules”.

A map, a red x where you were at and then just tell him to prove you were on the WMA. I just cant imagine why he wrote that ticket. Were you parked in the parking lot and just not on WMA land?

My most recent interaction was about 14 years ago at Hopedale Marina. Came back in on a hot as balls August afternoon, pulled up to the dock about 2 minutes behind two green jeans in a real nice Triton bay boat. They were heat stroking so bad, they got off the boat and ran inside to the a/c and water, forgot to tie the boat off. We grabbed it form the middle of the bayou and brought it back just as the shouts from folks on the dock brought them back out. They were very appreciative of us for the boat and the gatorade we gave them.

They mistakenly thought we hunted on Pass A Loutre WMA but he stopped us in the Jump 15 miles upriver from the PAL WMA border. He issued the ticket simply based on his bs line of questioning. Once we realized they wrote us tickets it was not worth arguing with them. We had just just come up river against the wind and it was 40° with current ripping through the pass. It was obvious they weren’t worried about anything except meeting whatever quotas they needed to show they were “working” without having to actually ride downriver in that weather. If they were actually doing their job patrolling the WMA and saw me hunting without checking in then I would have no problem taking my lumps.

I hope you are right and it is a simple matter of showing where we were hunting but even if we “win” and don’t actually get fined just taking the day off work will cost more than the ticket. Not to mention the gas to drive back down.
