Why do they not come down here anymore?
This guy, well that milder winters and an overabundance of food to the north. If its not locked up and there is plenty of food, why would they fly down.

Arkansas has traditionally always held mallards. I think the answer is the change in farming practices. Look at the trends in rice acreage in South Louisiana and contrast that to Arkansas and Missouri. Combine with no till corn farming further up north and only a few make it to the marsh. There are still places in the marsh where green heads pile in. My buddy has a place like this, but it's in SW LA and it's freshwater marsh.

Great pics hat. I hunt close to that area now and see maybe 15-20 French a year. It really sucks.

dont even get me started "ducks unlimited"...im sure the population of ducks is great and replenished when they dont migrate because theyre sitting on some refuge with more soybeans than they can eat...oh yeah and so they really dont leave we can pump water so it doesnt freeze....good plan NOT! way to disrupt a migration pattern thats been going on longer than any of us have been alive

They put up a huge net that the ducks cannot fly over.

oh ive never heard of that.....i know the big cannon net things they use for banding but they have to land to get caught in it

It's the most absurd one I've heard, so I had to post it.

yeah ive heard some pretty absurd stuff but i know for sure about the pumping water and the soybeans...saw it at a refuge when i was at reelfoot lake....im amazed that we were able to hammer smack the ducks while we were there.....there were a stupid amount of ducks on the refuge...ducks were landing in the grass and trying to fit in water....it was ridiculous the ducks didnt even like work and cup they just like hoovered and floated down
