It's my parents pond. We let people we know well on the pond, but considering the majority of people are dumb as rocks these days, they'd rather cover their arse even if it costs a few kids some bream/bass.
There's a big difference between having a party with other parents watching their kids (organized function with people we know) and some random person TRESPASSING without you even knowing.
If you wanna blame somebody for this blame the general population for being sue happy.

Are you a douchebag and tell the neighbors they can't walk along the lake and fish? Or are you cool (as long as everyone is clean, quiet, & respectful) and don't give a shite?
I live in a private community that has several small lakes which are well known to produce big largemouths. I try to be considerate if a neighbor is fishing, cleaning up their mess and practicing catch and release. The bigger issue we face is nonresidents who drop in to fish and then leave shite all over and keep the fish we've been trying to manage. We even have assholes who will drive their trucks into peoples yards while cast netting for fish in the middle of the night.
That said, I was walking my 5 year old daughter around the other day looking for panfish and a neighbor gave me the look and told us to GTFO. So we moved along to another spot but it was a bit annoying.

I'm sorry that you are that type of person.....hope I never get to be like that when I'm old
Wait till you get old enough to realize you worked hard for what is yours and that you don't care for freeloaders or people that will try to take away what you have worked to obtain.

it just depends, you might have those people who get hurt on your property and say it was your fault and try to sue you.

It depends on how it is set up and who owns the land and water.
Where I live, we are on a dead end harbor/canal with a dock shoreline woods on the far side. The dock is owned by the HOA, so we can fish anywhere and usually just drink/fish together if anyone is outside. Boats can come in from Chef pass, and no one cares if they fish; just don't make a wake.

I remember the days when this would happen and the home owner would walk out with a beer for the fisherman and make a new friend, rather than popping his head out a window a cussing him out. We are supposed to be famous for Southern Hospitality.
Fortunately/Unfortunately, depending on your point of view, the internet has brought to light that there are a lot of creepy and dangerous people in this world. I do not want strangers on my property. In the given scenario I wouldn't be a dick about it but I would ask them to politely move along and not hangout in my yard and fish in the future.

I don't have a problem with someone fishing my bank per se. It's when my wife or a grand kid catches a fish and AH throws his trolling motor in high gear and tries to fish in the EXACT spot. Find your own place, dude, it's a big enough lake with plenty of bank we are NOT fishing.
I usually go out while drinking morning coffee and talk to guys fishing along the bank in a boat. I like to keep up with what and how they are catching.

depends on who they are and what they look like. I didn't spend 25k for a double boat house and dock for a bunch of section 8's fishing off it. I let neighbors and friends....not strangers

I had a large pond in N. La, and didn't care if people used my property to fish if they got permission before. People just showing up and fishing, I'd find out who they were.
