We planted about 20 acres of oats yesterday in Catahoula parish. Hope we get the rain early next week and rain stays consistent after that.

The farmers I talk to always say it's the second rain that is the most important. We need rain to germinate everything, but we need a second rain within 2 weeks to keep it from drying out. And with how dry conditions are right now, in our sandy soil, the first rain is gonna infiltrate quickly and the soil will hold less moisture than normal. So the second rain may need to be sooner or we'll need a third rain. It's a shite sandwich and we're all gonna take a bite.

Don't wait on rain to plant!!! The seed will be fine waiting on rain and you will not lose that first rain. Plant in dust if you have to--it's going to rain.

Yeah it’s downright comical at this point. We planted and got rain a week later and none since.
Plots look like the dew must be keeping them alive cus while they don’t look like they thriving they are not dying.

Latest model run for rain accumulation through 11/9. Absolutely miserable.

It's amazing how so many of us cling to a 10-20% chance of rain a week out that constantly disappears.

I haven't ever seen it dry like this in my lifetime here.

With El Nino I thoroughly believe we will go from bone dry to more rain than we can handle that doesn't stop once the rain starts coming.

It'll rain eventually for sure. What really scares me is an early frost. If we don't get seed out until mid-November, that's a real concern. But I don't lose sleep over food plots like I did a few years ago. As long as I get to go into the woods, I'm happy.

I planted no till drill October 15 figuring we would have rain by now. Amazingly the heavy dew has what has sprouted doing ok we of course could REALLY use rain but it's doing better than I expected.

Can someone go back to the last El Niño year one and see if there was a drought ?

This drought is like nothing I've ever seen and even a lot of the old timers that I've talked to can't remember ever seeing it this dry for this long. We got an 80 acre lake that that half gone right now. It's nuts.

How in the world do we get a cold front without any rain in front? This has to be historical
