No the ones for the ammo were very short, basically just a piece of paper they make you sign when checking luggage that says you have ammo in the bag/case. No added time really just one more thing they make you do.

4457 form with us customs before u go. Gun form for canada dependsnon what province. I have gone into sask the last 6 years. Single form u can fax in ahead
Of time and pay fees so u just strol thru customs. The hassle depends on where u gly in. Had friends hit canada in calagary and said it was awful. We go into saskatoon and its a breeze

Last time I went through Edmonton they let you fax in the Canadian Firearms form and pay fees by credit card. Edmonton and Calgary have been the easiest places to go through in my experience
Make sure you get a US customs 4457 done before you go. I have an appointment in Baton Rouge next week to get mine signed by customs. I am going to BC for the first time end of next month. I guess I will learn how it is to deal with Canadian customs in Vancouver.
If you get their form completed and processed ahead of time, they usually just look at serial number on gun and match it against the form. Usually pretty quick
I have always had more trouble coming back to US than getting anything done in Canada. But it is usually just waiting time more than anything.

Us customs form is free
Canadian form was 35$ if i remeber. I dont know where u live but i go to the customs office in galliano. Usually the only person there. No apt needed. In an out. If u fill out 4457 ahead of time its easier.

Late to the party but dam do I hate Canadian customs and firearms. Like others have mentioned, don't even think about bringing a handgun.

What did the airlines say when you were in the process of taking this trip and getting it lined up?

I didn't even know customs office was a thing. I'll certainly get that knocked out though. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the money. I didn't schedule it. But from what I can tell, it's the Canadian and US customs that get all in your business, airlines is the easy part.

I drove across the border with a couple stray 9mm bullets in my glove box. They searched and found them after I said nothing was in the truck ( which I didn't think there was) . I was cuffed, questioned , and thought i was going to jail. Finally, I think they called me in to the US and I had a clean record and wife with me so I was let free to go. Biggest assholes ever at border patrol.

Just FYI, Baton Rouge customs requires that you make an appointment.
It is also kind of ridiculous that you are supposed to put any item that you carry out of the country, such as laptops, cameras etc..on the 4457 form. I usually put my binos and rangefinder in my gun case. Customs in Denver gave me a hard time and said he could charge me taxes on the items not on the 4457. Because I did not have them documented on the form, he said I could have purchased them in Canada. I just put them in my suitcase now. Not going through the trouble of bringing all that to the customs office

Don't know if this applies or if you know, but if you have a DUI on your record, prepare for a nightmare. They will ultimately have you pay a "fee" to enter after they delay you forever. I guess there may be something that you can do ahead of time to avoid the delay.

So if I put binos and a rangefinder in my suitcase, it's ok. But if I put them in with my firearms, I need to declare them?

I kept mine in my carry on bag on the flight up there and back and no one ever said anything about them. Never even had to take them out of my bag actually.

Well not exactly.

Just never had them look in my suitcase for anything. But they will look at everything in your gun case

I would Double check your record just make sure. They take Dwi very serious. If you are traveling with friends let one of them be you pack mule and bring your gun in for you. I had to do this last year for a guy on our trip.

Never checked my background so i dont see a dui being an issue. Only slow down i ever had was customs makin sure my rifle serial number wasnt wanted pruor to signing 4457. They have never asked me in customs for anything but guns. Came in from africa and only wanted to see my rifle even though i had listed camera and binos. Camada is a breeze. Dont let people overcomicate it for u. Get your forms done early. Bring gun in locking case or with locks, i have always used tsa locks with no complaint from airlines. Present when u check in for plane open case with gun disassembled. Sign card. Get on plane. Its not scary like some people acte. Say yes sir/mam to canadian customs. Most airlines allow 40 rds
Of ammo or 11 lbs. it
Just camt be
In your gun case has to be in luggage. When i told em it was in there ahe
Disnt even flinch and no other forma were signed.
