Going to Jasper, Arkansas this summer on vacation. Jasper is about an hour west of Cotter and an hour and half from Norfork, I have at least one day on my own, and want to book a guide.
Any rec's are appreciated

I've never gone there that time of year but I've caught tons of rainbows wade fishing in the fall. Not sure how the water is in the summer. We always stayed at rainbow drive resort in Cotter because it was cheap, and I'm pretty sure they have guides. Can't speak for the guides since I've never used them but the owners there are great people. Good enough for a bunch of college guys to make trips there multiple years.

Make the drive to mountain home. Find a spot downstream of the dam and buy some wooly boogers. Cast sideways across the current, let the current take your fly directly downstream and then slowly strip the fly back upstream. Just one method but landed lots of browns for us.
Also, pay attention to the schedule of water being released and when you notice it rising, get out. Can’t stress that enough because it rises quickly.

Go to Two Rivers Fly Shop in Norfork. Ask for Dom, and thank me later.

Matt is a very good friend of mine’s son.
He’s a very good fisherman and will work hard for you.

Appreciate all the guide recommendations, going to contact them today.
I’m not looking to do it myself on my first trip, I’ve never fly fished other than at lakes and ponds for bream, so technique tips for casting, what to look for, as well as baits to use will be more than worth the money spent.

That’s a little out of the way, Jasper is right on Little Buffalo, not sure how the fishing is though, haven’t found much for guides around there

Also a suggestion, make sure you stop by Connie's Cafe. It's the best breakfast I've ever had.

I spent some time up there last fall, it was great. "Hogs on the fly" near mountain home or "the Ozark angler" in heber springs. Fished with both, and both were great.
Another/additional option is to bring your baitcaster and go rent a canoe and chase some smallmouth on your own. The Buffalo River is a Blue Ribbon Smallmouth fishery when the conditions are right.

Hadn’t thought about that, we’re going to do quite a bit of hiking, and maybe a kayak trip while we’re up there, some small mouth fishing would be fun

I'm partial to two rivers fly just because I've been in there so much. My grandmother's house was about 100 yards down from his shop so I spent a lot of time just picking through the flies.
My grandparents guide service is a few hundred yards down the hill but its spin fishing mostly and has gone down so much since they sold that I'm not sure I would recommend them anymore.

So just finished emailing back and forth with Matt Millner of Rising River. He was the first to respond back to me.
He, personally, is booked during that timeframe, but has another guide that will bring us.
Looking forward to it.

I've met Matt, but do not know him well. I know his dad very well.
You will not be disappointed with him or anyone he suggest.

Taylor and Mickey Wooten with Flippin Fly Guides are awesome dudes. They know the White River very well and are open to whatever's catching trout ie nymphing, streamer, etc.

So my father in law and I fished today, did pretty well, at least I think.
We fished with Andrew Priester of Diamond State Fly Fishing, who was great. Launched at Cranor’s White River Lodge south of the Bull Shoals dam, which was a hell of a lodging option that I’ll likely use in the future.
Started off the morning getting the feel of things, targeting mostly rainbows, but picked up a few brown trout. After lunch we went and targeted “trophy browns” using a different technique. We ended up boating around 20 fish, easily should have doubled that, chalk that up to our inexperience.
I have a lot to learn, but I’m eager to get back, will post some pictures later

Now that I'm back in the land of WiFi, I can post some pictures from the trip.
I didn't take too many pictures, and we didn't pose with many fish because they don't really want you handling the fish and you don't really have free hands fly fishing, but I tried to take a few. The pictures don't really do it justice when you're used to the muddy waters of South Louisiana, but the White River is a gorgeous place. I'm already trying to coordinate another trip back. Going with a guide in a boat is definitely the way to go, for someone with my level of inexperience, but sooner or later I'd like to get the point where i"m standing waist deep in a shaded mountain stream surrounded by nothing trying to catch one or two.

Someone posted on FB a monster brown trout yesterday from the white river. They didn’t state the weight but it was definitely double digits and thick.
