Looking to do a 3-4 weekend trip so the easier it is to get too would be better. I’ve done Colorado on the Platte River. Any other recs? Flying out of Lafayette or Baton Rouge

You looking to freshwater trout fish? Or could you do some saltwater fly fishing?

If it’s a destination type freshwater trip look at the Middle Fork of the Flathead around Glacier National Park. Spend time fishing and time in Glacier. You won’t find a prettier area in the world.

I’d love to do a trip to the northeast for some stripers. I’ve fished of the end of Long Island before but just caught bluefish.

Getting in a shad kill below Bullshoals or Norfork would be one of your best trips for BIG trout. They all turn on and hit anything white.

Looking for freshwater out west. Glacier sounds awesome along with Yellowstone but easier to access via an airport is ideal since it’s a short trip. Looking at May/June dates.

With Glacier you can fly into Kalispell and fish out of there or drive up to Whitefish which is a pretty awesome town.

Alaska is the where it starts to me, in terms of an experience of a lifetime.

Fly fishing for coho or kings would be the shite from a drift boat.

Guided steelhead drift fishing trip.

Oregon and Washington both have some top notch rivers.

Winter runs are going now. Seeing lots of big fish being caught in the snow.

Eta....

Be careful with wild western rivers (non-generated) in May/June, the snow melt could keep waters too high. Eastern US rivers in PA, WV East TN etc should be having some good hatches.

Flyfish for sailfish in guatemala. Typically raise 15 plus a day with 5-10 bites on fly. A lot of days much better.

I live in Asheville and appreciate our local fishing BUT I would pick a Colorado/Wyoming/Montana trip every single time. Seriously, once you get into a hatch on a big western river you are spoiled forever. If it was me I would go to Island Park, ID and use it as a home base to fish Yellowstone, Gallatin, Teton, and the Henry's Fork. That would be an amazing trip.

All that being said, this year will be risky. They have had a huge amount of snow and the risk is that the temps will rise too quickly and the rivers will be blown out.

This will be my sons 4th summer working at this shop. You won’t find a better lineup for guides. You can easily fish the Henry’s Fork, Madison, Yellowstone, Teton, or South Fork with these guys. It’s in Island Park. ID. 30 miles SW of West Yellowstone and on the backside of the Tetons.
I entrusted my son to them between his Jr and sr year of high school for an entire summer, so obviously, great folks.

Stickly is there an outfitter you recommend in Asheville? We may go that route simply because we only have 3 nights and two days to fish. We would lose a full day traveling out west.

You really don't want to fish any mountain fed streams that time of year out west, as said because of the snow melt. There's a great chance the rivers will be muddy especially in May. Late June may be great fishing but I personally wouldn't risk it for a fishing only trip.

The rivers may be damned and the water release controlled, but they can still be very muddy.
