I have been hearing people swear by fluorocarbon so I tried it out for the third time, trying different brands each time. I originally tried Pline and it was breaking on hook sets, turns out it was just fluoro coated. Thinking that was issue I bought seagaur abrasion resistant 100% fuorocarbon 15lb last week. Tried it this weekend and it broke on the spool (looked down and saw the end sticking up) and broke when gently casting to a tree 10 feet away. I have had the same experiences (breaking while casting and hooksets) out of all of the fluoro lines I have tried. Is this stuff junk while being 3x the price of mono or am doing something wrong?

IDK, I use it all the time from 8 lb to 20 and 30 for leaders. I tie it with the all rite or San Deigo Jam kno.t I use Sun line but have used Seagaur. That P line floro coated is good when you want a floating stretch leader, I ise it in 20 LB for top water connected to Braid.

When you spool it on have the line coming off over the top to avoid line twist.

20lb and less I just use mono for leaders and on my bait cast reels. I use fluorocarbon for leaders above 20lb, and I have to say I do not like Berkley vanish, but I don't know what to switch too. I have used berkely big game for as long as I can remember, I don't know how they can have such a good mono and such a poor fluoro...

I have a trout setup spooled with 12# Seaguar and have no issues. Even when getting snagged, it feels like it takes more effort than 12# should to break off

Everything else I just use around 3’ flouro leader tied to braid

Did you hate because it broke all the time or because it was stiff? Which are the experiences I have had so far with it.

For bait caster or spinning reel?

Did you get a backlash at all before it snapped on the reel? Fluoro tends to become weak if kinked so if you'd had a backlash that'd be the culprit.

I use Sunline Shooter on my baitcasters.

I sure did. It wasn't really a full blown backlash the line was stiff it wouldn't stay tight on the reel, seemed like the line would loosen if it wasn't under constant pressure. Does it prefer less on the spool or need break in time?

I use Seaguar Invizx for crankbaits and Abrazx for bottom contact applications. Straight line, no leaders. Casts just fine and I’ve never had a problem with break offs. I tie everything on with a uni knot.

One time in Toledo Bend I got hung on a stump in about 20 fow. I figured there was no way I was getting my bait back, so I had to try to break my line (17 lbs Abrazx). Straightened out a 5/0 Trokar HD worm hook and got it back.

I use flouro all the time and never have a problem, but you have to watch your knots. I usually tie slips, and double line knots like double San Diego jam and Double uni( my favorite slip knot). Knots that can cross, like the Palomar, will break at hookset if you don’t tie correctly, and I’ve just abandoned it when using flouro, but like it with braid and mono. I use Gamma flouro on my flipping set-ups and you can’t break that stuff, one of the best, but expensive. Sunline is great as well. Trilene Big Game for when I need more stretch on moving baits, but really like the sensitivity of flouro on most of my setups

The abrazx is what was breaking while casting this weekend. Seems like it either works great or doesn't work at all for some. I'm trying to give an honest effort to figure it out, also not wanting to throw $50 worth of line away.

If I remember right from when I used the Seaguar Abrazx for a while it was a stiffer fluoro so yes, prone to trying to jump off the spool at times. Line conditioner can help make it more manageable, I use and like the KVD line and lure conditioner.
There are some fluoros that have been designed to be more manageable out of the box, but will be slightly less sensitive as a result.

Save your money and use the cheap big game mono for everything except spinning reels and bottom contact. For that I use braid.

You're likely overpowering the line with your setup if you're not messing up your knot. Fluro has zero stretch so having the right power rod for big hooksets is a must, and if your knot isn't tied correctly it's going to burn on a hookset. On moving baits that don't require a hookset I use 12lb test and never break off, and on jigs/worms I used 17lb abrazx and if I do break off its usually from not retying/checking my line after fishing docks. If you're using a med/hvy rod for jigs/worms I'd go for 15-17lb abrazx, if you're using a hvy you're gonna need to up the test.

This is actually false, fluorocarbon line does indeed stretch. Tackle tour includes stretch testing as part of their fluorocarbon line tests and Abrazx has just under 12% stretch. Much less than mono, but a lot more than braid.

One more thing, do not cinch your knot tight at all. You want to pull it taught, not tight. 15lbs of pressure is barely anything when you're gripping and pulling on something so you're dooming the line from the get-go if you cinch it down hard.
