From what I read, the bill bans the sale or possession of a Bump stock”.
What does a person do who already legally owns and is in possession of a “bump stock” in Florida?

Is there not a grandfather provision?

Third degree felony to possess one.
quote]Stewart’s bill also would have retroactive effect in Florida. It says that a person who currently owns bump stocks “may” turn them over to law enforcement agency, and it not, the owner “must destroy and render inoperable the device.” A violation is a third-degree felony. [quote]Sen. Linda Stewart, D-Orlando, filed the bill (SB 456) on Monday. The measure would make it a third-degree felony for anyone to “transfer, distribute, transport, sell, keep for sale, offer or expose for sale, or give a bump fire stock to another person.”

Funny all the hate for a plastic stock that isn’t even a mechanical device... Florida shooter didn’t even use one.

This is absolutely an unconstitutional taking of property by the government without just compensation. The Supreme Court ruled on this in 2015 in Horne v. Dept of Agriculture Chief Justice Roberts delivered the opinion of the Court holding in part, "The government’s duty to pay just compensation applies to personal property as well as real property, Roberts said. “The government has a categorical duty to pay just compensation when it takes your car, just as when it takes your home.”
No way in hell this statute, as written above, is not a per se taking of personal property by the Government. They are required to pay you for it.

What exactly do these things do? I have heard them described as turning a semi-auto into a full auto, which crap.

They're more of a talking point to get people to believe they "dont" need it. After that it'll be threaded barrels, flash hider, adjustable stocks and bayonet lug.

Don't forget the shoulder thingy that goes up. Can't believe they haven't banned those yet.

Just came out a little bit ago that the justice department is moving forward with banning bump stocks.

So Jerry Miculek can shoot an AR-15 without a bump stock faster than someone can shoot an AR-15 with a bump stock. Oh and I can garamtee Jerry will be WAY more accurate than the guy with the bump stock.
What do we need to do about Jerry’s finger?

I can't believe I left that out and the barrel shroud. Can't forget those shrouds of death or something like that. Next up We'll see a "this side up" on magazine sticker requirement.

Just like when they made Ecstasy pills illegal. OK to have 500 of them one day, prison time for any the next.

Did any of you read the bill? They define what a bump stock is and make it purposefully ambiguous. This is why I said to not support any bans on anything ever
They could be coming for Geissele triggers and all sorts of shite. This is what many asked for, even on the OB and Poli board. This was the language of the Florida law signed, I am wondering how the DOJ is going to word theirs.
quote:
As used in this section, the term “bumpfire stock” means a conversion kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device used to alter the rate of fire of a firearm to mimic automatic weapon fire or which is used to increase the rate of fire to a faster rate than is possible for a person to fire such semiautomatic firearm unassisted by a kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device.

Crazier stuff has happened.
Apparently in certain circumstances the ATF will view a shoelace as a machine gun conversion.
