Lol. The smartassery is because it’s Trot Line, not Trout Line. Calling it that is pet peeve to some, myself included. Like nails on a chalkboard. However I have no problem using clip instead of magazine. So what do I know.

You can catch plenty catfish of Trot lines in the Ouachita but I think it’s pretty high right now.

You will probably see some hooded morganzas while running trout lines in the Ouachita backwater.

Late February and into March I've done really well running trot lines in backwaters of Ouachita. My go to bait is chicken hearts.

Welcome to the board, Simmesport.

Anyone who posts enough will end up the butt of their mistakes occasionally.

I learned the word "rurnt" from my North Louisiana raised mom and dad. Asked myself how to spell that in about the 5th grade and realized the word they were attempting was "ruined." Whatever, you Rednecks!!!

FWIW, my pap-paw used to run hoop nets in the backwater of the Ouachita somewhere, and he'd catfish and gaspergue. He took me once, but I was about 7, so have no clue where we were.

Good luck fishin!

So did my paw-paw. He also ran gill nets too. He lived on Tupaw Bayou in West Monroe. When the river got up it would flood most of his bayou frontage property which was really nothing more than about a 5 acre oak flat that was right behind his house. When that water would start falling he would set his nets and crush just about everything that swims that would be coming back out of that flood water back to the bayou.

Those were the good ole days. Set some hoop nets with lead nets running into them, and you would struggle to roll them into the boat. Be full of catfish, buffalo, striped bass, white perch, and other fish. Of course we had to throw all those game fish back. Wink Wink A nylon gill net or a tied-down monofilament gill net will catch many a fish. My dad never sold those fish. We just had many family get together's with fish cookings, and some fish for the freezer. Get caught doing all that now days though, and the LDWF will take your boat, truck, nets, etc.
