Headed there soon and wondering if anyone has fished from the beach. If so is the bite usually good in September and what the main catch?

You can catch decent reds when they’re running. Throw out a hand sized fish and drink a beer...

I like to fish on bolivar. Its the first left after you get off the ferry from Galveston. Go down till you see the first bridge and fish from there. Make sure you have a rattler and a cast net. You can fish there all day and not go 20 min without a fish.

It depends on the wind and water conditions. If you have the right conditions (light winds) Jamaica Beach is a good spot for specks in the surf.

First day in the books. 3pm with cut bait and not a bite. Threw out a second line with shrimp and croaker were hammering it. Took off cut bait and rigged a live croaker. Not a bite. Went back at 930pm with shrimp. Somehow caught 897 hard heads on only 37 casts. Called it a night.

If you catch a really big croaker, try rigging a bigger rod for the bottom, go out to third bar and cast as far as you can. Walk it back to the beach.

The time is near for bull reds to move closer to shore.

I have a friend that fishes a mirrolure 52MR in the surf for trout in the summer over there. Water needs to be clear and wave action nil though. Not sure if it is still the time for that or that's going on earlier in the summer.

They are already there. Friend of mine took a crew down to Surfside this past Labor Day and did exactly what you mentioned except with live minnows/piggy perch and caught limits of Reds along with a handful of trout.

Btw, you teal hunting down South Saturday?

FIFY

Thunderbird has great habitat but damn, you still got to have equipment and gear to hunt it plus lodging. If you compare that to day hunts with a decent outfitter, you will still be money ahead doing day hunts.

Went to the state park. Not a single bite. Fished the beach this afternoon with cut bait. Sharks are fun and plentiful. Still no reds, specs, flounder, etc. Sharks, croaker, and hard heads are in abundance

Fish the beach dark thirty , top waters as far as you can Wade out if calm. You want a falling tide as the bait comes in close. Scented Artificials and color sometimes makes a difference, I use ZMan scented baits. The bite a couple of weeks ago was from 7:30 to 8:30 Am after the top water bite was over.

Unless you see fish busting bait don't fish the afternoon IMO.
