Currently waiting in line at the firearms desk at Academy in Lake Charles. I'm next in line. When I got here there were two baws in front of me buying hand guns, and there is currently six people behind me which I assume are doing the same, based on their conversations.

I think their policy right now is they will sell you two boxes if you buy a gun.

When I was there last weekend you were screwed on buying ammo, unless you wanted shotgun shells!

They should have been doing this since 2016. We've been in the salad days for guns and ammo for 4 years. The time to stock up has passed

I was stuck at the light by Lafayette shooters yesterday and there wasn’t an empty spot in the parking lot.

Today, the policy was you can get one box of ammo if you buy a gun in that caliber, if said ammo is in stock.

Eta: misread that question.

No, unless you buy a gun in that caliber, then you can buy one box.

Nope, not joking. However, some Academys are a little different. I went to the one in Beaumont on my lunch break yesterday to look around at the gun safes, and their policy was that you could get three boxes of ammo in 9mm, 223, 556, and maybe 40 cal (not exactly sure of all the ones on the list) per customer per day.

I think it depends on how much they have in stock. Once stock is low, they limit ammo purchases to go with gun purchases.

So just buy the gun with ammo and immediately return just the gun?

Yeah I know. More of a tongue in cheek comment.

I have to go to Academy for a baseball glove for my kid any way. The wife has been trying to think of gift ideas for the kids and we shy away from electronics and go for more outdoor toys. Idk why the thought never crossed my mind to get them their own gloves.

That is probably correct to a certain extent. Last night, when I asked for a box with my purchase, they had to go check inventory (the girl checking me out had to ask the guy who processed me because he was too busy helping others to check me out). Luckily he just received a shipment of ammo. But they were still only allowing one box per purchase. So I'm assuming they aren't getting much on their shipments to the store to allow regular limited purchases.

Yesterday at Security, a guy was ready to punch one of the owners for selling him a .35 Whelen when they had no ammo

Yeah, I'm sure. I purchased a firearm from them a few weeks back, and was able to purchase one box of rounds (20 count).

However, while I was there, people did come buy to pick up .223/5.56mm boxes, and there were other calibers on shelves behind the counter for purchase. Not sure what the purchase limit was for costumers, but unfortunately it was not in calibers I owned or needed.

Yeah, luckily I have plenty of rounds in the caliber I was buying, but one more box didn't hurt.

I finally made the decision to take my CCW class. I took the class years ago, but didn't follow through with the paperwork to the state police because I was in college and broke. I'm still broke, but I'm gonna complete the process this time.
