I’ve been a few times on my own, but I don’t have any in depth knowledge about baits.

I know I need:
H&H cocahoe minnows: opening night
Matrix shad: not sure on color
Gulp shrimp: i’ve done well with new penny.

What else is a must have for Specks?

I’ll mostly be surf fishing on Elmer’s this spring/summer if that helps any.

Corks with leaders and hooks/DOA shrimp pre-rigged. Nothing shitty like getting broken off in a good bite and having to completely rerig to get back in it.

I have made the permanent switch to popping corks with flexible wire leaders.

They last forever

No top waters or double rigs.

I do have a pond beside where I live that I can practice with top waters. I’ve heard the mirrodine top water is good, right?

Fluoro leader material
Jig heads 1/8oz - 1/2oz
Double rigs if you don’t wanna make your own
Matrix and various sparkle beetles. Grab some light and dark colors for varying water color

Suspending hard/twitch baits

Also get some live bait stuff

Buy a badonkadonk next time you’re buying new hardbaits. They don’t rattle as loud as the shedog but IMO, they twitch better.

theophile bourgeois got me on them and I haven’t looked back

I like the she dog topwaters, and double rigs for diving birds are good.

DOA's are awesome and are my go to during the summer

Topwaters, I like to have a color/size/sound variety. Matrix Mullets, Topdogs/Shedogs, Skitterwalks, and Spooks. Clown colored, golden mullet, pink, and bone colored have pretty much been my go-to though.

Suspending baits are always good to have, Mirodines, or some of the Paul Brown stuff, softdines, fatboys, corkies, broke back corkies. I bought a couple Matrix Minnows the other day but haven't used them yet.

I don't use corks very often but usually keep a popping cork prerigged with a leader and a Vudu shrimp in the box ready to go.

I have a shite ton of tackle but I really only use these baits for trout.

1.Paddletail - Matrix Shad
2.Topwater - Rapala Skitterwalk
3.Shrimp with Popping cork. Take your pic
between voodoo or DOA
4.Hard body sinking bait- Mirrordine and/or
Catch 2000.

When in doubt throw chartreuse!

Also, a good pair fishing pliers you can clip on your pants is a must. Danco makes some nice ones in various colors and configurations and they’re made in USA. Side cutters are for braid and split ring ends are awesome for topwater.

You will have a thousand dollar box of baits by the time you are done here.

Seriously bro, 1st thing is to get an assortment of colors in your choice of soft plastics. Grab a few popping corks to go with the plastics.

After you have done that get a handful of topwaters and suspending baits. These are the most expensive so you will have to pace yourself at first when building a new box.

My number one bait when fishing Elmer's late spring early summer for specks...

Mirrorlure MR52- Favorite color has a pink top, but have done well with the White/Red face

I also pack a corky or two, Topwater (Shedog)for calm days, double rig set up with Cocahoe artificials and usually just a few jig heads with Matrix Shad Lemonhead or Magneto
