I hate messing with treble hooks in the surf.

You can always save your treble hook baits for early in the morning. You are on the beach or very shallow early in the day anyway. Just my two cents.

There are colors that are better depending on the conditions and water clarity.

Most popular colors for soft plastic are probably the following:

Purple/chartreuse
Shrimp creole
Glow
Blue Moon
Green Hornet
Lemon head

Surprised no one mentioned a Deadly Dudley . I’d keep some of those for sure.

Might not be in your box, but a net would be nice if surf fishing.

Something light and something dark.

Black with Chartreuse tail when the water is dirty and a Magneto or Lemonhead when its clean.
