Does anyone have any recommendations for a father/son hunting trip? My dad is in his 60's and doesn't get around as well as he used to and I'm looking for a trip to take us on . Most likely deer because he can still kill turkeys, we just don't have a good place to deer hunt here in Georgia. Also open to any bird hunting ideas as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The most "user friendly" hunting destination for deer is Texas. Easy terrain. Drive to stand. Mild weather. Plenty of animals. Reasonable prices.

I would go to Oklahoma and do a guided trip out there. Plenty of places where you can hunt dove, duck, sandhill crane, and deer.

If it were me, I would do a deer and sandhill crane hunt.

do you have anyone you would recommend for that? He's still in good enough shape to get to any stand and back. I just want to fit as much in before he isn't able to.

Unfortunately, I don't. It's a trip I hope to take soon. Someone here may have a recommendation though. Other than that, I would call around to some different guides and get some information. Go with the one that's in your price range and that you feel comfortable with. From what I understand, sandhill cranes are a kick in the arse. It would certainly be something different.

Are you willing to bow hunt?

You can get some great early season combo hunts in North and South Dakota. Deer hunt in the morning and evening and pheasant hunt midday.

I would also recommend looking into a Pronghorn combo with pheasant/sharpies, etc. in Wyoming and Montana.

If you are dead set on deer I will say as I have before, look to Canada and spend the little bit extra. With the travel ban over the past year there should be some absolute toads taken once outfitters are allowed to take clients again. Probably your best shot at realistically taking a 170+ inch deer fair chase.

Pronghorn Antelope would be the funnest hunt y’all could go on.

Alabama has good whitetail guides that are reasonably priced.

How about a guided hog hunt in Georgia? Jager Pro does them and you’re guaranteed to kill a bunch of hogs. They provide thermal scopes and all. Would be a blast.

for bird shooting I would recommend Argentina. It's a fantastic experience.

Like our old next door neighbor said 100 years ago. “Screw you I am going to Texas.” Deer are like rats everywhere. At least around fort Mckavett area
