I'll have to tell my nissan v6 this.

Apparently it missed the memo.

I have a 2018 with the 2.7 and 93,000 miles. I've not had any engine issues but I did notice what some white smoke at startup a couple months ago, which continued off and on until a couple weeks ago. You'll find reports online of other users experiencing the same white smoke issue at startup with a wide range of potential causes - some say Ford has told them it's normal for these turbo charged engines to exhibit this behavior at startup and other say they've had to replace the turbos. Who knows,

There has been no change in performance on the road, but it still concerns me. I've procrastinated on taking it into service, but probably will soon just to get it checked out.

I love the engine and performance but if I had to pick between the 5.0 and the 2.7 (or 3.5) ecoboost engines for long-term reliability, I'd pick the 5.0 all day. Mine is a company-owned truck, so I didn't get a choice when it was purchased.

Quick hijack - I have an 18 lariat 4x4 with the 3.5 and love it. Tires are about out of tread and want to go bigger than stock (275/65/r18), but don't want any rubbing.

What is the next size up that fits without any modifications?

Got a 16 4wd with a 3.5 EB and I'll NEVER buy one with a 5.0. Mine pulls my 50 hp Kubota fine an drew got great mileage until I leveled it and put on 295/70-18's. They're 34" tall and reduce my everyday mileage to around 17.5. It'll still do close to 19 on a long two lane road trip if I keep it under 65 mph. Above 75 it's around 15.

When it was stock it was a rocket ship. It's just an XLT though. I'm an OT poor.

Best option on one is the electric locking rear axle.

Just curious what the general life expectancy of this motor is?
I have the 3.5 in a 2013 with 202k. It's never had an issue and still looks great. I've gotten the itch periodically to get something new but everytime I start mulling it over, I come around to realizing I'd probably get something almost identical to the one I have now. So I might be in it just to see how long it holds up without any major repairs.

I wouldn't mind trying the 3.0 Powerstroke. The problem is Lariats are 60k, that is ridiculous for a 1/2 ton truck.

My 2017 with the 2.7 started blowing light gray/blue smoke on cold start up around 35k miles. Brought it to 3 different dealerships on 4 occasions and was told it was normal. Finally on the last trip I convinced them to park it in the shop over the weekend and crank it on Monday morning after it sat for 2 days (the longer it sat the more it smoked). It smoked out the entire shop and they ended up replacing the turbos with about 500 miles left on the 60k mile warranty. It never affected the way it performed, but was very glad I didn’t have to foot the bill. It has about 70k miles now and no other issues. Always pulls fine for my needs, around 3-5k lbs. Fuel mileage is decent but really not much better than the 5.0 since I leveled it and run 34” tires. I’ve been happy with it, and wouldn’t have any complaints if I left it stock and still got the original fuel mileage. But if I was buying new right now I would get the 5.0 for more towing and comparable fuel mileage. Don’t know much about the 3.5, but based on what I’ve been told, all the engines in the f150 are pretty solid.

My comment is geared towards towing vehicles.

I owned a 3.5L ecoboost. I would not buy another one or any other brand with a small engine.

Wow, I keep hearing at 80K they start shitting the bed so I am nervous about keeping it much longer since obviously I am out of warranty now.

I have a 2018 Lariat with a 5.0 and with a 3.15 or 3.31 rear end. I came from a Yukon with a 6.2. I miss that power and I’m envious when I drive my dad’s 3.5 EB. If I had it to do over again, I’d get the 3.5 with at least the 3.55 rear end. I feel like I have to floor the 5.0 to get it to go at all.

Also, my 5.0 sounds like a diesel and makes grinding noises when I let off the accelerator. I rode in a buddy’s 2018 King Ranch this week that does the same thing. We both decided if we went F-150 again it would be with the 3.5 EB.

I’m just not impressed with the 5.0 at all.

Mine has 172k on it. No major issues, some minor-moderate ones.

While I greatly enjoy this (and the 3.55 it is on) my favorite option by far is the 36 gallon fuel tank. Made it from raton, NM To my house without even the fuel light coming on. And still getting 300 miles/tank towing is awesome when in the middle of nowhere.
