A couple of years ago I went to the farm before daylight and turkey hunted that morning with no luck. The Tom's stopped gobbling and and I figured I could go mow the yard and eat lunch. I finished my lunch and was sitting on the back porch when a Tom gobbled right behind the house by the creek. I grabbed my shotgun and camo and tried to close the distance. I was down in the creek and was within 100 yards and he quit. I hit the slate a few times with no answer. I came out of the creek and the pasture where he had been and there was no turkey to be found. I thought about it and he should be right there. There was a ridge between me and the south property line. I walked to the top of the ridge to see what was there and to my surprise there was a guy medal detecting out in the middle of the pasture. He had head phones on and was busy and not paying attention to anything but his medal detector. He gets a hit and starts to dig. While he was digging I walk up within 5 yards of him. He finds a civil war 58 cal mini-ball. He looks up and I am standing there with my turkey gun on my hip. He looks like he has seen a ghost.
He is in his mid 60's and knows better. I ask him if he knows who's land he is on. He shakes his head no. I ask him if he has permission to be medal detecting? He said no again. I said I know and sleep with her every night. I asked him where he came on the property and he walked me to it. I told him that what he was doing was stealing and what he was caught doing gave metal detectors a bad name. I took the mini-ball from him and told him my son medal detects and he stole the privilege of him finding the mini-ball. I fixed the hole in the fence and doubled the amount of no trespassing signs up around the property. I hope and pray that I do not have to do it again.

They are good people. And they all hunt, too, so they should know the etiquette

Deer arn't going to run to the next parish cause they hear a human. Too many humans around for that. At most, they may lay down for 15 min till they think you are gone, but probably just alter their course a little.
This is ridiculous. Sure you are about 50/50 right. But it certainly doesn’t attract deer. Who knows where they were driving also. If you are staying in the roads away from stands you are right, but if they are taking the dirt trails through the woods they’ll absolutely kick deer around.
Deer prefer to be left alone. 4 wheeling doesn’t do that, whether or not they leave or not is not the question.
If the neighbors are doing it at night during deer season, what else are they doing? It’s not their property. Whether or not it’s doing something wrong doesn’t matter, they shouldn’t be there without permission.

I absolutely understand your anger, but my advice would be to let it go. That's a small price to pay for good neighbors. Especially when you compare your story to the nightmares that come with bad neighbors

Those deer don’t give a frenchman’s frick about 4wheers. I’d likely just let it go, before you screw up that relationship.

Very simple.
Hey guys I know you do a lot for us out here and we've known each other forever, but if you guys don't mind I'd rather you not ride around out here during deer season.
Problem solved. If they still do it then escalate your response.
