easy way to fix aluminum pot
Posted on 7/27/18 at 3:06 pm

i have a tiny little hole in the bottom of my turkey frying pot. basically ball point pen sized. i tried to make cracklins the other day and all my oil ran out of the pan.
it's the perfect turkey frying pot so i don't want to get rid of it if it can be helped but if there's an easy way to fix it i'd like to do so.
any ideas?

Aluminum welding rod.
JB weld will not hold up to the heat from the burner

Unless you're talking about actually having it welded, the "welding" rods they sell for brazing aluminum melt at lower temp so it won't hold up to the heat of the burner. If it was on the side it would be an easy fix.

I’m talking about stick welding with an aluminum rod

Shop that specializes in Alum repair

I would just buy a new one and cut the risk of burning my place down leaking oil onto a burner.

may be too thin but I'd look for a restaurant supply store and buy a new stock pot.
I bought a 25qt last week for like $30
they had up to 80qt pots.

Run a self tapping stainless screw without the rubber grommet

He said an easy way. A shop will charge him more than a new pot unless he knows someone, if he did or had the means to weld aluminum himself he wouldn't be asking about it.

Just get a new pot

this ^^^^^
unless you drilled a hole in it then there are most likely 20 more holes about to break through on you.
if you want to get it fixed then cut the bottom out and have a new bottom welded onto that pot, unless its a "special" pot, its about the same price to replace vs repair it

I put JB quick on mine - several tiny holes due to leaving it on a steel cooker. science and shite.

Carry it to your local tech school and talk to the guy that teaches tig welding give him $20 and it will take like 20 seconds to do.

If you know somebody who can weld aluminum weld it up. If not, chunk it and get a new one
