not betring you up but this question comes up a lot.

How much do you want to spend? Anything that is worth shite will be expensive as hell. Anything you find reasonably priced is likely moderate to shitty hunting and is rotated in and out with suckers. I have been one of those suckers many of times

Anything open, that didn't come recommended from a personal friend isn't good. There is a reason the blind is open...

Get a skiff and jack play.

Put a 35HP on it.

Hunt Biloxi marsh. Profit.

That's what I was afraid of. Its crazy how tough it is to find a decent duck lease.

This X 1,000,000. Any decent place is NOT going to the general public to get filled. The only way to get in a good blind is to either get an invite in on a spot someone is giving up or that a group is leaving behind one for an upgrade that you get inside info on. If you get a chance to lease a blind outside of these 2 scenarios, run don't walk away from it.

I lost a lease this year that was moderate at best. How to gauge since lost year sucked so bad.

Someone came in and paid 15k for the place.

Fwiw. I bought my own property to get away from the cluster

I will never lease again. For the same money, you can do guided hunts and kill way more if you can pool the money with hunting buddies. Plus, if you book enough with one outfitter, then you can pick good dates and get all kind of perks. Or if I still lived in LA, I would just hunt public and invest in a good boat and wheeler.

This. Plus, day hunts if you're wanting to hunt on weekends only.

Eh, I don't know. A reference from a friend is always more comforting, but we had people bail on our place because they're old, spoiled guys and aren't happy that things aren't like the good old days. One dude made the fatal mistake of totaling up the number of ducks shot and divided by the amount spent on the lease/groceries/gear and wound up with a figure he didn't like. I'm optimistic about this coming year. Plus, I need it to keep my mind occupied. Thinking about how I want to hunt certain spots is more fun than thinking about what pros I want to book with on which weekend.

This for sure. I typically make a 2-day guided trip per year but it's just to see some different marshes and the hunting is usually strong. Other than that, I'm a public land warrior with occasional invites to private land in marsh or rice.

With respect to the comment above on the skiff and Biloxi marsh, that's definitely a viable option for those willing to put in some effort. Biloxi Land Corp's recent change to not allowing surface drives and only long-tail's of 16 hp or less has likely opened up a few leases that may not have otherwise been available. Everyone just wants to ride into the pond, throw up the pop-up blind, sit on a Yeti cooler, hide under their Drake hat, and iron out "big ducks only" because they're too good to shoot teal or other ducks of debatable value.

Ferriday is a little too far north for me haha. Being that close to the fly way I doubt seriously that it sucks.

With that being said pretty much everything that has been said is true. Unless you have a inside line on one most arent worth having. Get a boat and hunt public and make a couple paid hunts a year.

What'd they decide to do at Catahoula? Last I read on the internet they were going to make low water and high water leases out of it...
