***Page 23 - Updated Pics***

Never thought I'd be posting one of these, but here it goes. Just a few days ago I was wondering how I was going to fit hunting and LSU football around my school schedule and the upcoming birth of my son, due November 04. Today, all that seems of marginal importance and completely insignificant.

Wednesday morning I was at work and so was my wife. She called me from school and told me she was going home, since she was in pain. I took off to bring her to the doctor. The pain got worse and worse. She did a couple of ultrasounds and it went from possible bladder infection or kidney stone to possible early labor. They monitored her for about an hour and then did another ultrasound.

After the ultrasound, they told us "your having a baby...RIGHT NOW." Emergency C-Section. The babies' vitals were in good shape, but something on the ultrasound concerned the doctor, prompting the c-section. Since they couldn't find out what was causing the pain (contractions) they were gonna get the baby out before anything negative happened to him. One full month early.

I was in the OR for the c-section and they immediately took the baby away, but I didn't know what was normal in that situation, so I thought all was fine. We were happy to find out that we had a son. My wife lost a lot of blood but they got her sewed back up.

They eventually brought me to see my son. They informed me he wasn't doing well. From the time he came out, he had no heart rate. It took 18 minutes to resuscitate him.

He went to NICU and my wife to ICU. My world was completely turned upside down, and an emotional roller coaster ensued.

Thankfully both me and my wife have a large, close, caring family who were there for support. The outpouring of support was amazing. We were put on prayer lists from several churches of all religions, and had literally thousands of people praying for us within hours.

My wife stabilized and quickly began to recover. Trevor, on the other hand, wasn't doing so well. He was having trouble breathing with his premature lungs and they were extremely worried about the neurological effects from the 18 minutes without a heart rate. The first night was terribly hard on me, and Trevor didn't do very well. We weren't sure if he was going to make it.

Early the next morning his vitals started improving. Throughout yesterday they kept getting better, he was breathing over the respirator and they are slowly weaning him off of oxygen. His glucose improved, and he is now completely off the insulin. Everything else is looking up as well.

The main thing we are worried about now is the neurological effect the down time had on him. He's on a cooling blanket now and pretty sedated, so they can't determine much now, but the EEG have looked positive so far.

He has truly been a miracle baby since the first 18 minutes, but we still have a long, tough road ahead of us.

Any extra prayers would be appreciated. We are truly blessed with the support we have recieved so far, and are happy to have a beautiful son.

Enjoy your time in the outdoors folks and don't take it for granted. Your world can literally change in a matter of minutes.

Sorry for the long post, I needed to type it out to help clear my mind.

Dang man. That made me sad reading it. Spent 5 days in NICU with ours, but not nearly the trouble you've been through. Prayers and mojo sent.

Feel for you. Nothing puts life in perspective like....life. Not much anyone can say to make you feel better, but keep everyone updated and remember sometimes letting it out helps.
