Things have changed a lot I guess. It was a pretty good deal when it was available. I used to buy for a number of people until I found out one of them was selling the SD for a profit. Even worse they didn't kick any $ back to me

Looks like it.

Hell, I would feed the dog Ol Roy if I could get it for $10!

Victor is a great food for those who want better but need to keep price in mind. It's roughly a $1 per pound.

I feed my dogs Holistic. My Dobie is allergic to carrots and has skin allergies. Holistic has cleared this up for her, along with salmon oil supplements that are added to her food. Her coat has never looked better and she is now able to produce solid stools (was a disaster prior to making switch).

i feed TOTW. I would love to go raw, but that is just too much work i feel. so easy to scoop into the bowl ratehr than preparing a meal when i dont like preparing my own meal. (unless it is some big meal i want to cook.)

I switched off of raw before my daughter was born. I can tell a difference, but I don't trust my daughter just yet around raw. Plus the time difference helps some when I have to wrangle a toddler.

Did you ever try the Victor Salmon recipe?

What we feed our black lab as well. The breeder fed it to all of his dogs, so we did as well.

Thanks.
I have 8 year old Golden and have been using Pure Balance Wild and Free (Grain Free) for a few months.
I like it but even though I have cut down on the amount fed, he has not dropped weight. He is 102 pounds and beautiful but I know the future health problems he may face with arthritis, etc.

BTW, I would love to breed him with a good Golden Gyp.
He is incredible and a very intelligent dog and lives inside with my wife and 3 cats, package deal-LOL, but also loves to hunt and has retrieved ducks, geese, dove, quail and anything else I shoot if he is around. He has even chased hogs although I am thankful he never caught one!

Thanks for the info.
I have Currie Feeds not far from my home and will buy some tomorrow.

I have not tried the Salmon recipe from Victor. With Holistic, I have a quality product that fits my dogs well and I don't want to switch, even with price factored in.

I bought a bag of the Victor salmon for my German Shepherd on Tuesday. Still mixing with current food for the next few days before I get her on it 100%. She loves the taste of it, for now, that's the only review I have of it.

It never was top shelf, and wouldn't have been considered so, if it hadn't been pushed by vet offices who were getting perks to do so.

I don't know about all of this. I agree that pet stores were using it, but it used to be the top tier at petsmart and pet co. This is 12-15 year ago. It has slowly drifted to the middle. There are more and more high end dog foods now.

There is a trend in the pet industry of pushing more organic, grain-free, sugar and salt free foods.

People today, think of their pet as their "child" and are willing to spend more money than ever before, namely on perceived higher quality brands of dog food.

Last year, the pet industry took in over $60 billion dollars in revenue. By 2019, that number is estimated to go up to $91 billion.

That's pretty cheap relatively, no? I can't remember what I pay for Natural Balance. I kinda hate to switch though. We finally have the ear and skin problems calmed down.

Find whatever works best for your dog and stick with it. No need introducing any other potential issues if you have found a food that agrees with his stomach and skin.

If your dog eats it, it's reputable, and you are happy with dog and turds produced? Stick with it.

Science diet kept my terrier mutt spry for 15 years.

One of the first things I noticed when we switched to Victor. Turds are about half the size and a lot harder. Not a vet, but it sure makes me feel like the mutts are digesting it better. They all seem to love it, and are in amazing shape.

It also makes it nicer on mowing days.
