For those with the Starlink, do you need to point the antenna in a certain direction? Or is a clear line of site to the sky good enough?

I mounted mine on the directtv mount that was on my facia and routed the cable through the soffit into the attic and then into my kitchen. I cut in a 2-gang box with receptacle and a hole for the starlink connection in the wall above my cabinets and set the router on the cablnet. Works great thoughout the whole house, and outside on the front porch, back patio and garage.

I think they’re supposed to have a pretty clear Northern view of the whole sky.

Get the starlink App. It shows you where to point it.

On the app there is a feature where you can use your phone camera to scan the sky in the area you want to put the dish. It will give you an estimated connection quality.

Just keep in mind that you are scanning with your phone from head height. If you plan on mounting it higher (like on a tall pole), that extra height may get you past some obstructions that the phone camera thinks is in the way.

The big one we have at the camp on a residential plan needs to face North-ish, it seems the Mini is less dependent on direction, we've got a Mini on the boat and it's just laid flat pointed straight up and never seems to matter.

As said above, get the free Starlink app, tap Check for Obstructions, and use your phone's camera to scan the sky by following the directions at your intended spot for the receiver/dish. In our hemisphere, it will need to point in a northerly direction.

With me testing standing on the ground, my phone said our spot was fair with some obstructions. But when I got the actual dish mounted at 10', it had zero obstructions.

When you actually install, the app will show an outline of the angle the dish needs to be, and you turn the pole/mount until it lines up. Easy.

It takes about an hour for it to scan the sky and get a decent enough read to start working. Ours said it would then take overnight, with a 3 am software update, to tell the final tale. The next day, it was banging with much higher speeds than what we got after that first hour.

There lots of videos available that show the install process and that may give you some ideas on mounting the dish via various poles, brackets, etc.
