I would shop based on the Pew science rankings.

Jay is a man of many words. Most of which I don’t understand. There was a whole lot of praise for the PTR Vent1 coming from a guy who seems to back his words with legitimate scientific data.

I have never shot a suppressed .308, so I can’t give you any personal recommendations. But if Jay says it’s good, and the data says it’s good… it’s probably good.
That’s gotta be the old list from April/May. They discontinued a bunch of legacy and less popular guns.

This newly announced discontinuation is literally every gun they make except the slimline CCW guns (43 43x 48)
I like mine a whole lot. But man it’s hard to recommend it purely because of holster selection. Lots and lots of holsters for the 34 length slide, but the 17L is a smidge longer than the 34, so most holsters don’t work.

First thing I recommend is creating a trust. I used nationalguntrusts.com and they were easy to deal with. There are several roles within the trust, and different people should be named within those roles. They have an explanation of everything on their website. It’s the cheaper option. You can also have a lawyer create a gun trust for you and they can figure out who needs to be in which role. The trust document will need to be signed and notarized with all relevant parties being present.

As far as letting other people use it…

They have to be named on your trust to be able to possess it without you being present. Depending on their role, they may need fingerprints, passport photo, and background check taken when suppressors are purchased and registered. You can’t just let a random buddy from work borrow it one afternoon without you being with him at all times unless he is named in the trust and has the aforementioned…. infringements on file.

From there, the easiest option is to go to a gun store and buy a suppressor. Have a PDF saved on your phone and hard copy of the signed and notarized trust with you when you go. They should be able to handle the photos and fingerprints there.

If you buy a suppressor before Jan 1 2026, you will pay: 1. The price of the suppressor 2. Sales tax 3. A $200 tax to the ATF. After Jan 1 2026, the $200 tax is no more. You will have to wait for the ATF to approve your purchase. The wait times are very short now, like a few days to a week, because lots of people are waiting to for the tax to fall off. If you don’t want to wait and have an extra $200 to spend, buy it now, if you want to save the $200 and will tolerate a potential much longer wait time, then wait til next year. I think that come Jan 1, ATF is going to be hit with thousands of requests all at once and there will be delays.

A second option is to buy a suppressor from Capital Armory. This is the route I would take. They are registered in every state that is legal to own a suppressor in. They sell the suppressors and complete all necessary paperwork with the ATF, collect the $200 tax if applicable, and ship the suppressor to your door. You will send them your signed and notarized trust, take selfies with your phone and send that, they will send you fingerprint cards for all “responsible parties” named in the trust, and you mail the cards back. They handle everything from there. I haven’t purchased anything from them myself, but it seems like this is a convenient option if they have what you want.

The third option is to buy from a site online. Lots of places sell suppressors and often at discounted prices. They ship to your local gun store, and everything is handled by the local store. Stores often charge a fee for processing the paperwork on their end, in the $75-$100 range is typical. So make sure the sale price is worth it, or else you aren’t saving any money and have to deal with multiple entities handling payments and paperwork.

It sounds like a lot, and it is, until you’ve gone through it a few times. The trust is one and done, unless you amend to add or remove individuals. Once the local gun store or CA has your info on file, it goes smoother for subsequent purchases.

Feel free to ask more questions and I’ll help if I can!

Supposedly gundeals is still good to go because they only allow retail vendors not individual-individual transactions.

You can buy a red dot from Academy with a link on gundeals, but you can’t buy the same red dot directly from me on gundeals. That sale would go through GAFS which is getting banned.
I have no advice for you, but I hope he gets his rights back. “Shall not be infringed” is pretty clear on its intention.

I thought about recommending some small stamped steel ones like the Ideal 45-074 on Amazon for $18 or so. Nothing wrong with those. Once they dull, you just buy some new ones.

I think your best bet is going to be the Knipex electrician shears. 95 05 155 is the model number. They come in a plastic sheath with belt clip, but you can pop the clip off. These are around $25 or so and they are badass little cutters. Just don’t cut anything hard with the round part and they will last.
As others have said I’d make damn sure it wasn’t coolant before I even question the transmission. The Y connector leaks when the truck sits for a while after running. It heats up, expands slightly while driving, after parking, it cools off, shrinks and leaks. Very common issue.
Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a question for you.

I got pine sap all over my Wise Eye solar panel. I cut a limb above where I mounted the panel and I guess it dripped. Any recommendations on what I should use to clean it? I don’t want to mess the panel up.

You’ll get a lot of recommendations for Tenicor, T1C, etc. I tried plenty of those, but none worked me.

Get an Enigma. It’s a belt/faceplate system that the holster screws onto. It decouples your belt and holster. You can carry in gym shorts and a t shirt because you don’t need to wear a belt.

It is expensive. It is the best for comfort AND concealment in my opinion. Add a mastermind tactics pillow and you’ll be set. I had issues with the leg leash thing, so I removed it and put a DCC clip I took off of another holster. I’ve spent more money on holsters that sit in a box collecting dust than the cost of the Enigma, so if I had just started here, I would have saved money overall.

Look at something in the S&W EZ family.

My recommendation is to find what fits her hands best and put a red dot on it. She can use the dot as a lever against a table and push down on the grip to rack. You can get a nice big 6 MOA dot that’s plenty bright. She’s would be better served by something she’s comfortable with and can hold on to over something that’s easier to rack.

You can’t really modify the springs too much without sacrificing reliability.
I got the bracket from Builtright industries for my F150. Bolted a Ram mounts X style phone holder to it. It’s works fine. No vibration issues and it holds the phone well enough. Feels secure and stable even on rough roads. I’m sure the bracket and Ram arm I have would support the weight of a tablet.

Pretty expensive for what it is IMO.

That’s what I have. It’s a good little gun, just be aware when loading the mags. The bullets should be in a uniform pattern, slightly angled up in the mag. I use the included mag loader. Pull down enough to fit one bullet, put the bullet in the mag, let off on the mag loader so the bullet gets pushed up by the follower and it should self align.

Problem is that the bullets start to dive in the mag and won’t load into the chamber correctly. They should be angled up slightly, not straight horizontal in the mag. Not a huge deal once you get the hang of it.

I use CCi standard velocity in all my rimfire guns. It’s subsonic out of a 10/22 rifle, so it’s definitely subsonic out of a handgun barrel. As reliable as it gets with rimfire ammo.

CCi also makes a “subsonic semi auto” at 835fps you could try. They were 8 or 9 /10 reliable for me. Only had a box or two. They were quieter than SV, but not worth the reliability trade off.

Shooting is fun, but clearing a jammed gun is not, so the SV gets my vote.

I like POM. I got the one with the pocket clip. My wife, her sister, and my MIL all use the keychain version. It’s compact and convenient to carry and easy to access if needed.

re: Dog kennel recommendation

Posted by Whisky Dent on 5/27/25 at 3:07 pm to
I got a Gunner Medium. It’s a nice kennel but it’s heavy as shite. I can move it by myself but it’s not enjoyable. For reference it weighs as much as a Yeti 105 empty. It’s also awkward to carry. Too long to fit through doorways if you hold it by the handles. End up having to grab it by the metal bars and put the door against your chest. Not bad with two people though.

Also had a problem with the door not latching right. Gunner has a fix for it, but I drilled holes in the frame and got it working right.

That being said, with the kennel strapped down I feel like my dog would survive a car wreck. Might get thrown around inside the box a little, but she’s not coming out of the kennel and the kennel isn’t going anywhere. It’s expensive but I feel like it’s a good insurance investment.

I know if I saved the $200 or whatever and got something cheaper, and then my dog got hurt, I would never forgive myself.
They don’t have anything super spectacular about them. Just a well rounded complete package. They aren’t the best at anything, just pretty good at everything. You get factory QC that you can’t get piecing one together yourself.

Only negative I have to speak of is the trigger. It’s an expensive gun that should come with something better than the trigger that’s in it. $150 gets you an SSA-E and solves the issue.

The Geissele Super Duty comes with one of their triggers. I would put the Super Duty just about dead even with DD in that “pretty good at everything” category. It’s a toss up between the two guns if you’re looking at a standard 16” barrel rifle. DD or GS might clearly do something better than the other when considering pistol/SBR configurations.

Lanbo’s has them for $35 and $10 shipping. Should be able to save a few bucks on tax too compared to PSA.
