I don't pay homage. I'm trying to end it's life. It ain't always pretty. It's serious business.

Generally I kill the deer. Drag it into the food plot or somewhere I can get the bike to. Then I go to camp, open a beer, drive bike to deer, load deer up, skin and debone deer, put deer in guy bucket and go dump it in the ditch.

The 7 mag paid enough homage when that sweet sweet thump rang out and ended its life.

I will add that IMO showing the respect due your prey, and possibly feeling a tinge of regret at their passing, is a sign of a mature hunter.

I agree with this. I feel much different after a kill now than I did 10+ years ago.

Always with deer. I have a lot of respect for deer since they basically have a shite load of animals hunting them. Ducks not so much. I just get blood thirsty.

IDK, I am actually the opposite. When I was a teen anything that moved in the woods was getting killed. So naturally, I felt little regrets here and there.

Now that I have matured as a hunter I let so many walk that when I do decide to suck the life out of one I don't think twice about it.

First thing I do is walk up and cut the throat so they bleed out properly I feel like that needs to be, although that is a I'm one with mother nature and God helped me shoot the deep type thing.

And as mentioned by someone else, I do try and pray before I eat and give thanks for the food, if that counts.

I don't stand over it usually to thank the Lord for the gift, but when I make a great shot and the critter falls in place, I do the thank yous.
Don't want to hear what I say when I clean miss or have to trail!!
When I find one I wounded, I do the Thanks for letting me get one in spite of my shitty marksmanship.
