I did that one year when the season was over. It was alot of guestimates, but somewhere around $15-20/lb.

It is better not think about it.

If you do a camp lease, time, fuel, corn, ammo, accessories, guns, Scopes, bow, broadheads ect $ on the amount of lbs of meat you get.. you might as well shoot yourself

That's scary to think about. I'm gonna make a spreadsheet this duck season and crunch the numbers at the end.

I don't keep a lot of reds and don't really fish for trout.

I won't add what we already have, just blind, gas, shells, food, camp, and whatever else I buy.

I know people that duck and deer hunt fanatically and eat NONE of it. I enjoy the meat I kill and the fish I catch. I never keep or kill more than we eat, but we eat a ton of deer. Killed 9 last yr between me, the wife and my daughter, and we're out. Rarely ever buy beef. My daughters request venison for "special" meals like birthdays and such. We make and eat lots of jerky. Cooking and eating it is as enjoyable to me as the hunting.

I fall in this category somewhat. If I was doing it for the meat I probably would have quit by now.

ETA I still have deer meat from 2 seasons ago in the freezer

So far these are my expenses just off the top of my head and I have not slung an arrow.

Dues 1000.00
Feed: 100.00 so far
Fuel for various trips not including pulling the tractor. 120.00
Tractor work 2 weekends in a row 50.00 in diesel plus 160.00 in fuel for the truck.
Seed for the food plots 50.00
Misc expense food/ beer/ water etc..75.00

So I am in 1555.00 and I haven't even sat in the stand yet. 1555.00 could buy me some really good beef if I was trying to fool myself and say I was hunting to feed my family..

95% of the value of hunting is the entertainment the hunting and camping brings. I don't look at it in $/lb.

I keep but of course never more than a limit. We eat a lot of fish but I'm the only one to eat game so I give most of it away including a lot of fish. I get a kick out of giving someone a big sack of cleaned fresh trout that normally would not get it or some good deer sausage or tamales.

I don't give back trap or tenderloins away and I cook my doves and most of my ducks for myself.

I do this all the time when fresh water fishing. I caught a 6 lbs bass before and had my buddy take a picture of me with it. Then I threw it back. I throw back Bass, Bream, White Perch, and Catfish all the time. I used to put them in the live well. When I would load up my boat I would empty the live well and let all the fish go. Now I don't even put them in the live well. I don't want to clean fish when I get home.
