Disposal of a ruined gun?

What do I do with a gun that is useless now? The receiver is fine and still has a visible serial number.

My Dad died and I found this in the truck box in the back of his truck. It's a JC Higgins Model 88 in .22 cal. Just a little stainless pistol. It's missing the barrel and all sorts of stuff. It's like he took it apart to clean it with some solution and the solution ate some of the parts over time. More than likely years. He probably forgot it was back there.

You can turn it over to the cops or bring it to a gunsmith to see if they can see it for parts.
