I found the Grinds helped me. I liked the Black Coffee and Wintergreen flavors. The others were too sweet for me.

I quit using copenhagen snuff when my gums started receding and those little grains would get caught up in the sockets. looked disgusting. Stained the heck out of my teeth as well.

Timely thread. Constant struggle for me. I've quit for several months at a time on a few occasions. Activity association gets me bad, and I'm on the road a lot. I quit on 9/25 again this year. Bought a can two days ago and made it halfway through the can Stopping again today.

You can do it, but you have to want it bad enough. The first month sucks but it gets easier. Like others have said find something that takes your mind off of it gum, candy or something else. Fake snuff and grinds worked for me.

I've been using ZYN. They are tobacco free nicotine pouches. They allowed me to quit real tobacco instantly and they sell them with higher/lower amounts of nicotine to taper off.

Still has the nicotine that is highly addictive but I believe is better than the alternative. Just an idea

This... and my dentist told me I'd lose my teeth in a few years. It sucks at first, but it will get easier after a month or so like others have said.

Throw the money you'd spend on a can in a jar and see how fast it adds up. I did this to help me see how much I was wasting on it. This was back in the late 90's. I had a new Browning Gold in short order with the money I would've spent on snuff.

I've never heard of someone getting mouth cancer that doesn't use tobacco. Either dip, chew or cigarettes or cigars.

I know it is POSSIBLE to get oral cancer never using tobacco. But I'd bet your chances are near lottery winning remote.

Now, it is quite common to meet people that ended up with oral or throat cancer that have used tobacco. Stop giving bad advice. This guy wants to quit the shite and you are the fricking devil on his shoulder telling him it's ok. Get the frick out of here.

I quit 6 years ago and still have to stop myself from buying a can occasionally. It gets way easier after the first month. After the first 6 months it's an old afterthought. Every now and then you'll catch yourself doing something like working on the car or watching football at the house by yourself on a friday outside and catch that urge again. It doesnt happen much and passes quickly. Get through the first month.

Same for me, I used skittles to quit

Drinking was the time I usually craved one and when I was bored on a deer stand. Withdrawals weren't that bad, but I had vivid dreams for about three months after I quit.

Best of luck. I have cravings for cigarettes so bad when I have a couple of drinks. I can go a month without a beer and not smoke. As soon as I have my second beer it is awful. I guess I need to stop drinking maybe need to find some new friends, too. Sunflower seeds helped me stop my daily cravings when I was quitting dipping. I think I may need to get some coffee straws or something if I have a beverage. The "fixation" is just as bad as the actual nicotine.

I quit in February of this year and have had maybe two dips since, with the last one being in July. I told my wife yesterday that for the first time in a while I wanted one.

I'm not advocating that the OP continue dipping. But I've seen studies that suggest that the risk of cancer from dipping is negligible.

It's not an easy study to get accurately, and there is likely confirmation bias in any review like this but just a quick google search found this. It says 3.6 in 100,000 users get some form of oral cancer. 36 out of a million.

My fiance told me that if I hadn't quit before I met her she probably would have turned down the 2nd date. So it's either the best or worst thing I ever did, yet to be determined
That's funny. Hope it turns out good for you. And congrats on having the willpower to quit.

I went from a can a day to pouches. Pouches helped me fight that urge. Now I barely do a can of pouches in a week.

If I did it, you can too.

My first dip was at 5, buying my own cans at 10, $.75 a can and Skoal still came in the cardboard cans.

Switched to Cope at 18.

11/11 will be 10 years without it for me.

I had a cancer scare and had just lost a friend to cancer who never smoked or dipped. I was looking at my 11 year old son and thought what if I had died, he wouldn't have a Dad anymore.

I threw two full cans away that day and been clean since.

It's not easy and I've thought about everyday since then but, the cravings left after a while.

I had a buddy at work that I made him promise me that he would never let me bum a dip ever from him. The days that got rough I would go to him and just open his can to take a big whiff, close it and handed it back to him. That helped me the most.

I don't miss the spilled cups and raw gums. I do miss spitting though and that first taste of the day.

Dangit.. Now I want a dip!

Hang in there bud!
