Some of the old timers I have been talking to said the crappie span in North Louisiana is ruined do to the winter weather. Said these fish may never make it into the shallows. I hope they are wrong.

We'll find out in March, I'm saying this is early enough not to affect anything.

It’s Feb 15 and it’s going to be in the 70’s next week.

The crappie will be fine.

They are fine. They don’t all spawn at the same time

And i guarantee you could put out yo-yos in 2 feet of water and stack them up right now Have smoked them in real cold weather up shallow

I know it's not the same but down here in far south La. I have been catching sac a lait full of eggs for the past several weeks. I don't think they are actively spawning yet but it's close. I figure they will move up shallow in the next week or so and begin their spawn down here. They are usually done by March down here.

Crappie will spawn when the waters get to the right temperatures... and are typically the highest around a full moon. This year the February full moon isn’t until the 27th. This bodes well for the guys that are farther south. The March full moon will be the 28th. The 3 to 4 days leading up to the full moons in these two months will be lights out.

We don't even start running yo-yos until a fire on the bank to keep warm is a requirement.

I’ll be on Larto Lake next week and I’m ready for that.
