6.5 creedmoor has better ballistics than the .243 and you'll definitely have a exit wound. It also has about the same or maybe less recoil. I own both and have killed deer with both, but I absolutely love the creedmoor. That round is a tack driver.

my aunt is about that size and 70 years old. she shoots a youth x-bolt in .308 and never complains about the recoil. it's a little bit easier to find .308 ammo than 7mm-08

my dad shoots a .243 because it's what he got us when we were kids and his old woodmaster crapped out. he kills the shite out of deer with it but it does have some trouble with exiting. we have a blood dog so it isn't that big of a deal but yeah, the blood trails are usually hard to follow

How is a .243 underpowered in any way for deer hunting in LA? I’ve smoked many a deer with a 22-250 at up to 300 yards, .60 grain spitzer or BT, placement placement placement

I swear it's like people don't even read or cant comprehend the OP is talking about a kid. No one cares that you as an adult can make a great shot. That is what a .243 is good for a skilled shooter that has experience, doesn't get as nervous and can hold steadier that an 9-15 year old kid. Not one person that is pumping up the .243 can explain why it is or would be a better round than a 7mm-08,.308 or 6.5.

It’s not. Get her small ruger. My son killed a 220 pound 11 pt at 100 yards with 243 and Fusion bullet. Dropped like a sack of potatoes and damage was unreal. Just must hit bone so teach her shoulder shot.

The fusion bullet that hits bone doesn’t exit it explodes.

I used them in my 30 06 but I do heart shots and they are plastic coated so they didn’t bleed properly. I keep find my deer dead two hundred yards away no blood trail. But if she shoots that bullet and hits shoulder bone the deer is dead and we have deer over 240 pounds and they are just as dead. The gun is small and easy to handle and will fit her body perfectly. I keep the one I have as my shooting coach shot a target at 150 yards at range 10 times though the same hole. Everyone thought he had bought another 10k marksman competition gun. He made me promise to never sell it to anyone but him, saying sometimes Ruger just gets it all right.

That one you want a compact model. I like the wooden one but they have plastic too.

I had the opportunity to shoot an AR in 300 Blackout today. That’s a great youth rifle. .223 case necked up to 30 caliber.

Go ahead and downvote me for nit picking, but the 300 Blackout is actually the 221 Fireball (which is itself a shortened 223 Rem) necked up to 30 caliber. And yes, it would make a good youth deer rifle. Actually, the first deer rifle I bought my son was s 300/221 (ballistic twin to the 300 BO) barrel for the T/C Contender platform. I had problems working up a handload at acceptable chamber pressures and got frustrated. Ended up w/ the aforementioned 308 Win for him the next deer season.

I think the biggest issue that you may find with a .300blk is get a barrel with the twist rate that will stabilize and be somewhat accurate with a lighter bullet.

I really haven’t testing mine (8.5” with 1:7 I think) with 125ish grain bullets.

.243 or 7-08. Either one will do the deal. I bought a Youth Model 7 in .243 for my daughter about 20 years ago. I kept it for myself when she lost interest. It’s the only rifle I’ve used since
