Use the thermacell. Hunt the wind.

If the deer get down wind of you and bust you it's more likely that he smelled the human scent and not the thermacell

Just throw a few of those blue tabs in your blind while you're not there...Make that smell normal.

I thought of this...also wind has been screwy here...so its been tough...we rut here early on the coast and I have a big boy in there I want to shoot...it would kill me to miss the opportunity for any reason

my dad swears by hanging a pouch of Levi Garrett near the stand to help mask the scent. And he says the deer love the tobacco....

I used the earth scent once and them things smell like mawmaw's house on Sunday before church. I stick with the old faithful original.

Thermacell doesn't scare them. The only thing that you really have to watch is human scent. Wash with decent soap, keep as cool as possible and use the wind as best you can, and try to hunt non-pressured deer if possible.....Other than that, good luck...

Thermacell is about survival. Only other option is a Bug Tamer suit.

All the scent free clothes and sprays and the entire market for scent free is so bull shite. My dad will literally smoke a cig in a stand (after not seeing any movement for a good while) knowing what he's doing and what way the wind is blowing. He will then circle around to another stand and see bucks and occasionally get one. Granted, this is 400 acres we have when no one else is on the property hunting. He's only been doing it for 50 years so he might know what he's doing. But the thermacells are fricking awesome. Especially for bow hunting.

I think they can smell them personally but I can't bow hunt without one so the wind is very important

Yep. They can smell them. I can smell them so I know they can. But i am not gonna hunt in October without one.

You can try and hunt the wind all you want but in the late evenings there typically isn't a lot of wind blowing it's pretty still in the woods

Surprised it took 13 posts for someone to say how peepaw smokes cigarettes and kills more deer than anyone

No telling how many deer peepaw scared away while smoking

As soon as I see people with those "scent doesn't matter" comments I know that the rest of their story/advice is completely useless

Yep, and it's not that they don't smell them, it's that they don't associate them with danger, and that's the big key on anything that smells in the woods....I've seen deer interact with coyotes, foxes, almost rub against my 4 wheeler while I'm waiting for them to clear, so I don't shoot my wheeler. I've watched them walk up to where I've urinated, only get alarmed when they hit the trail I actually walked on to get over there, not the urine, which they were attracted too. My main take is it's the byproducts of your skin and breath, control them, and hunt the wind as best you can, as well as the rut, when you have the best chance of them making a mistake in the daylight....

Simply put, we have a smell that they associate with danger. A predatorial smell. If you can reduce your human odor, you have shifted the odds in your favor

I know they can smell them. Hell, I can smell them, but I can't hunt the early season without one. Mosquitoes would carry me away. That said, I don't think they necessarily associate it with humans like other odors. Hunt the wind the best you can and try not to smell like a sweaty fart.
