I've heard speculation that he may have been a drug addict hiding out back there.
I know that area well. Not much out there, and a good hiding spot. Hell, Chevron owns a lot of that land, and they don't even know what goes on out there. One guy that lives back there was bushhogging on Chevron property and setting his deer feeder out there. Had the stand hanging in a tree in his backyard.

Strange, wonder if a hog ran him up a tree and he fell to a lower level with a fatal injury? Or lightening got em? Strange for a 32 year old man to be up a random tree on a levee.....

It appears the man fell from higher up in the tree and sustained fatal injuries, according to the news release.

I think it is just bad reporting with the lack of details, but I could think of a lot of logical reasons a 32 yo man would be in a tree on the levee, with the highest probability of 'why' going to hunting, other activity requiring vantage point or retreiving something.

yes - we ran into some bizarre stuff frogging back there.... a few hogs and a few deer there... but something tells me he was not hunting.

one night about 230 we rounded a turn and ran into about 20 state troopers some on horseback some on ATVs.....spot lights and guns drawn - they were looking for someone going in there at night stealing cattle....calves mainly... 1983
two groups of us frogging out there one night one group went 1 way the other the other way... the other group got back to launch about 20 minutes before us... they got robbed at gunpoint at launch. 1986
saw a vaccuum truck parked on a bridge dumping something into water - called wlf and deq.... next week many many dead fish.... 1989
and one time there was as oil slick at the boat launch for a couple of days... - the next week they found a submerged car at the launch.... 1991 ish.
