OK, I thought that might be the problem. Up here, even our mud flats usually have a solid bottom a few inches down.

Anyway, I'm sure he's going to turn up sooner or later.

So forgive my ignorance, but isn't he basically stuck on this 'island'. While i understand its huge, could he legitmately cross the main canal?

Bayou Sauvage is about 75-100yds wide. If he crosses that and gets on the south side of Hwy 90 things can get a lot more hairier.

Was just curious how wide it is.

My beagle wouldn't cross puddle in the parking lot.

the real bad thing about crossing sauvage is the breakwaters in front of industrial sections will be impossible for him to climb up.

Meauxjeaux,

See the Google map in this link. The green arrow marker on this map is the general area in which the boat launch owners last saw Grizzly on yesterday afternoon.

Yeah Teague...the freshwater swamps and marshes you guys have up here have bottoms. Saltwater/brackish marshes don't really have a bottom..unless you're walking a mudboat trail...then it's deep water.

For example: I used to hunt the Sabine refuge back in SWLa....sink up to my gonads in mud...and only to my waist in water. I was a fat boy back then..so I learned to spread my weight out and "walked" on the mud on my knees....it was slow..but I killed ducks!

Probably snow shoes in the open mud, but the grass is so thick I don't think they would work in the marsh...

The grass would eat you alive with snow shoes on...the lumps and bumps would throw you.

there was a guy who made some mud shoes a while back...seemed promising.

How can a dog move around in that?
