portabands are expensive as hell, luckily I have a machine shop and a fab shop at my disposal at work so anything more than a grinder and I have tools available to get the job done.

Funny you say that. Last night me and the Mrs were looking at the neighbor's wainscot work in their living room and the Mrs looked at me and asked if I could do the same. I told her yeah I could, but I'd need a miter saw...then I remembered...I have a miter saw..When Daddy died...all of his fab shop tools became mine...they're just in La. It might be time to make a trip back home and load up all those tools...

Gotta be extremely careful with those wafer wheels. They are extremely dangerous and can fly apart. Best to wear gloves and as much eye protection as possible.

The metal you are talking about cutting is not very thick. A cheap grinder with a thin metal cutting disc will be fine.

Something I forgot about also, you can buy a cutting wheel to fit a 7-1/4 skill saw. They work awful good for cutting tin and small angle iron.

Get a sawzall for that. It’s not the best thing for the job but you’ll get a bunch of use out of it after this job is done. Don’t spend money on a metabo or anything like that if you aren’t cutting metal often.

Yep. Sawzall can be used for everything. That’s my vote.

I have the harbor freight grinder and it a been great for 3 years or so of medium-duty use. 100% worth it for the price, even if you only use it a few times

do not get the HF recip saw. The motor will burn up under any stress. I went through two of them rather easily. I went all in on this one Milwaukee 15 amp Super SAWZALL

I don't think I could kill if I tried. I've even cut down a few trees that grew through a chain link fence with it. It is my most used power saw in my collection.
