I need to build a storage rack on my garage ceiling. What will be stored won't be heavy but will be kinda large; 6' X 8' storm panels. I'm going to build it with slotted angle iron and need to know the best/easiest way to cut the angle iron other than with a hacksaw. Is there a circular saw blade that will do the trick?

You guys usually give me better suggestions than the "experts" at HD or Lowes or Ace so TIA.

4 in angle grinder with a thin cutting blade, easiest will be an end grinder (metabo), but I doubt you have one in your tool set.

You're correct I don't have one but it doesn't mean I won't buy one for the job. I was looking to "get by" with what I have (I'm not tool poor BTW) but will buy one if need be.

Was what I was looking for; have you used one (and can recommend a particular blade)?

Cop (cut off) saw is the answer. A nice cut off saw can be had for under $200. If you don't do a lot of metal cutting even at $200 it might be a lot to invest (not just money but if you are like me garage space is a premium) in a tool you rarely use.

LINK

Harbor Freight sells a mini 6.5" cut off saw with metal blade for about $45 then throw in a 20-20% off coupon and you are out the door for less than $40. Just go slow, take your time, and it will do the job. These are great for trimming golf shafts. Cutting thicker metal just go slow and take your time so you don't burn up the motor. Don't force the blade let the wheel do the work.

LINK

I have a cheap compound miter saw I will throw a 10" cutoff saw blade in for the rare instances I need to cut metal. You can get a blade for about $5-10. Certainly wouldn't do it with a nice $600 sliding miter saw. Just be sure to take the dust bag off and blow off any wood dust before you do this. I know from experience wood dust is flammable

LINK

If you have an angle grinder a thin kerf metal cutting wheel can be had cheap and will do the job to.

Wasn't challenging the size of your tool manhood, but most people don't have metabos, and they aren't cheap because their isn't many companies that produce them. 4 inch angle grinders are relatively inexpensive and a pack of cutting discs and you will be good to go for about 60 bucks for the whole set up.

I have used one multiple times. If you have a lot of cutting to do, you may want to buy 2 or 3.

This one.

+1
for
Grinder
Portaband
Sawzall

Most people don't have easy access to a torch (and some don't know how to use a cutting torch).

I know this...I love me some Portaband. Best thing to replace a hacksaw! It's circular saw/Skil Saw equivalent for a hacksaw.

Didn't take it that way just letting you know that, for the most part, I'm not a tool newbie.

Regular chop saw with metal cutting disc. Don’t forget to take off the dust collector or you may have a small fire. I learned the hard way.

If you can rent or borrow one, a portaband saw should work best

portabands are expensive as hell for a one off tool, luckily I have a machine shop and a fab shop at my disposal at work so anything more than a grinder and I have tools available to get the job done.
