That's why, if you can find it, get a manual. Back in 2018, traded my Tacoma for a Tundra in part because of the pretty bad transmission.

I’m 6’3 and I had a 2010 TRD Sport with a v6. It wasn’t too bad.

Got talked into selling it to get rid of the payment.

im knocking on 200k with the original chain. mine is the 4.0, but same difference.

you dont need to change it unless there is evidence of the timing being out of whack...

no point in doing useless maintenance.

got that VVT so there’s slack in the chain from the factory.

exactly, but dont get me wrong. there are cases of timing chains that have stretched, but its not a big issue in these engines.

With all this Tacoma talk, anyone know where I can get one for less than 30k with not a million miles on it? Things are ridiculously expensive, as are all midsize trucks right now including the American made stuff. My son is 15 and will be driving next September. Maybe there is an chance prices come down by then?

You ever looked at the Frontiers? That would be what I would get if getting midsized.

Hauling what? I love my Tacoma, but the small bed makes hauling problematic. Bed extender used often.

Tacoma world is saying the newer 2.7L have just as much power as the early 2000s 3.4L.

I have a 2021 Off-road with V6 and manual transmission. I've driven in the V6 with automatic, and I hate when it goes into the "I can't find a gear that makes me happy" mode, I can't imagine how bad it is with a 4-cyl. For reference, I traded my 2015 F250 for the Tacoma. I was just ready for easier parking and maneuvering. I do miss the comfortable ride of the Ford though. I'd probably be disappointed if the Tacoma was my primary daily driver. I usually drive it about 40% of the time.

The first thing I did to my Tacoma was add front-seat risers to make the seats more comfortable. They lift the front which provide for a bit more leg room, a more secure feeling in the seat, and relief on the thighs. I highly recommend for any current-gen Tacoma owner.

You're going to be all kinds of disappointed going from a 2500HD to a 4 banger truck lol get the V6 if you're dead set on a Tacoma. I'd consider the Turbo 4 in the new GMC Canyon that makes 420FT/LB of TQ though!

On my 3rd Taco, put over 300,000 miles on them. Best midsize truck on the market. They have the highest resale value in its class. Same With dependably. On those 300K, never did anything other than basic maintenance.
