CRP Questions: yes or no

My brothers I own right at 1000 acres in Tensas Parish along the River both inside and outside the levy. We have a few bean fields we lease to a farmer across the highway from us strictly to farm soybeans. He gives us access to his 800 acres to exclusively hunt his place as well.
15 years ago he did CRP on right at 80 acres because he still hunted a little back then. His CRP has dropped acorns ok the last couple of years and my brothers and are thinking about doing it on our place. His is starting to look good.
We already have a good bit of oak flats and cotton woods but there are a 2 open fields we’re looking at that are about 45 acres each that isn’t farmed and would maybe want to try CRP.
Those of you with experience, is this a shared cost between the landowner and the program and would it even be worth it? Always here everyone screaming how great hunting CRP. We have great cover for deer on the place already and plenty of oaks and food sources the deer need. Would it be beneficial?
My younger brother is the one wanting to really try this. Any suggestions and opinions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
ETA: Haven’t been able to speak to the farmer recently due to a serious illness otherwise I would’ve spoke with him about it.

How are the deer numbers currently? What are you trying to increase, deer numbers? antler quality?

Yeah, tie up your private property with the government for 30 years. Great idea.
Just plant it yourself and leave the government out of it.

Also CRP grows really fast in Louisiana

I’m not real sure if they are even enrolling anything in CRP right now.

CRP is a 15 year contract. Email me if you want to talk in depth about it. Lots of good to it, not much bad. Mississippibow@aol.com

You can buy out at any time. Just have to pay a little premium. Not bad considering the government paid to plant the trees then paid you annual installments just to leave your land in the program. It’s a damn good deal if all you plan to do is use the land for hunting and you are the one putting it in the program.

FSA is shut down, so that is the first problem.
Sign-up is typically in the summer though. Parishes also have limits on the acres that can be enrolled in CRP and WRP/E, so that could be an issue too depending on the current numbers in the parish.

Antler quality, no doubt. We kill some big deer but not as many big mature bucks walking around like we had in the 90s as a kid. Early 2000s were good.
Regarding numbers, way too many does. Our ratio was great but in the past 3 years it’s getting worse. Too late this season but I should’ve found a half dozen buddies with doe tags and let them fill their tags over a weekend and that still likely wouldn’t be enough. It’s not uncommon to se 30-40 deer an evening from the stand.

257, I’ll shoot you something here in a little while. I know you’re just a little NW from our place

I’m in tensas as well. I love our CRP.
We don’t own the land so I can’t tell you the specifics of it but I believe it’s only 6-7 years old. Still very thick and just now starting to get some trees poking up through the brush
