Been hearing rumblings around our place about panther sightings recently. Buddy of mine saw one this morning while on the stand. Tan colored long tailed panther / cougar / whatever you want to call it. This was in Osyka Mississippi

It passed 10 yards from him. No chance of mistaken identity. Seen by neighbors about 3-4 weeks ago and by a pipeline maintenance crew a week or so before that

Do some research. There are confirmed cases by wildlife and fisheries of the occasional cougar / mountain lion / panther / puma in the Louisiana area. I was always a bit skeptical about reports as well but this was a first hand sighting by a close friend on the heels of at least 2 other people in the vicinity reporting sightings

I won't swear by it, but I'm almost positive the last confirmed sighting in MS was in the 50's by a riverboat captain. Since then it's always been someone's half-tame one that got lose. You said your buddy saw it in the light, so I'd be willing to bet it was tame. Wild cougars only come out at night, and the same is true for mountain lions.
