More expensive than a Ruger GP-100 Match Champion .357 with less going for it. Hope the street price is about $150 less.

It wouldn’t be feasible to remake the original snake guns like they were back in the 60’s and 70’s. Nobody could afford them at what they would cost to have them made now days. All hand fitted, expensive bluing process and hand polished, lots of moving parts. Very intricate firearms.

No, it wouldn't...but aren't new CNC machining process so much more accurate than in the days when those colts were hand built?

probably a lot less work to make these guns just as smooth as the originals with modern technology...

maybe even improve upon it some...

there weren't many people that were able to do work to upgrade the old snake guns actions from what I've been told.

Hence the creation of the Smolt... a Smith action(arguably easier refined) with a python barrel fit to it.

You might be able to CNC out the bulk of the parts but even with the best machines you aren't going to have the tolerances hand lapping will provide. The parts have to be heat treated which changes their dimensions slightly after machining so they'd have to be finish-ground then fitted and lapped together. Then taken back apart, cleaned, oiled, then reassembled and tested. All done by a person who knows what they are doing too. I think it's possible to make a different mechanism that would lend itself better to modern machining technology but that's a lot of money for a niche market and Colt isn't in the best shape to take that risk.

I really like to shoot the GP that I gave my dad
this would be something I’d pay that kind of money for if it is well made

It’ll probably sell for 700 or so

They have to tool up and take the risk at this point imo. They cant keep existing on government sales of a Vietnam era rifle design. They've got to either get back to the front of innovation or wither away

Unfortunately Colt has a very long history of not being innovative. Almost nothing in its current catalog makes me want to get out the checkbook, the AR selection is poor and overpriced, I'm not a 1911 collector, they don't have competitive CCW options. I'd love a Colt SA revolver but that isn't something that's on my list anytime soon and I'd be looking hard at Ruger too. I own Beretta, Ruger, Springfield Armory (old and new), Mossberg, Benelli, Marlin, Dan Wesson (original not CZ), Glock, Magnum Research, and a few other makes but nothing Remington, S&W, or Colt. Three manufacturers that have done a lot of damage to their brands in recent decades.
