Bleach and sunlight is your only chance, but not a sure thing. I had this happen with a bottle of baby formula in mine. I ended up having to chunk it.

If the bleach method doesn't work, dry it out really good and place activated charcoal and some old newspapers in it and close it. The carbon should eat up the smell. I did this with my fridge that had rotten fish and deer meat juice that leaked to the bottom and i still have the fridge to this day and has no odor. It may take a couple of weeks but this should work.

I've done the bleach trick many times throughout the years. The only one that never smelled right again had a crack on the inside and the shrimp juice got in the insulation. It was a cheap igloo not a Yeti. I still use it, but only to put shrimp, crabs, and fish in.

I typically use Rtic. I have two of them. When I got this boat, I needed a big cooler for the front of the boat but size mattered. I knew I needed around 100-120 quart but I didnt have a lot of width there. Rtic did not have one that would fit. They were all too wide and short and I needed a tall narrow one. The 105 Yeti was perfect

But that thing cost $500 and Im not checking it. Its pretty new as well.

Totally Awesome from the dollar store + water. Leave for a day, then leave open in Sun as others have suggested… Works like a champ

I know you have been on pins and needles so here is the update. The bleach worked. Filled with water, added about a quart of bleach , closed the top and let it sit for 2.5 days. Dumped it out this afternoon, rinsed it out and other than smelling a little like bleach, there is no smell left.

Will Put it in the sun for the day tomorrow and that should do it. Thanks for all the recomendations. You guys came through again.

Boiled peanuts. Left the water for a week.

The maggot and peanut smell is something I'll never forget. I've never eaten a boiled peanut since then

If I do that, is my ice gonna taste like vanilla? LOL

Nope this is an old method to get the smell out of an ice chest. Leave in just for a day or two. no residual taste.

You may try throwing a couple boxes of arm and hammer b soda in it for several months. It may help a little but I don't think you will ever get the smell out completely.

Well a few months later and some of you guys were right. Though initially the smell in my 105 went away, it came back with friends. Just foul. I ended up sending a email to Yeti explaining what happened. They send me warranty info and are replacing my cooler.

I know they are over priced but that probably won me over as a repeat buyer. It was totally my fault and they are replacing my $500 cooler

New one is already on the way....

Thanks for all the help and no squid will get any where close to this one.

Try the vanilla extract suggestion, at this point it can't hurt anything.

Fill that bitch with water and add some bleach, let it soak for a few days. If that don’t work, you’re buddy needs to buy you a new one.

Unfortunately, they wont let me keep it. They sent prepaid lables for UPS and it got sent back. Not even sure what they do with it

I did the bleach thing for days twice. Both times over 3 days. I also left it out on my lanai in the sun opened up for a week. I removed the rubber gasket and the plug while It was out there. It did not smell as strong after that but once I closed the lid for a few days, the smell came right back.

I even bought some "cooler restorer" but no help. Lesson learned is to never, at any cost, put any kind of squid, no matter how protected, in your drink cooler.

I was shocked they replaced it. I told them that is was 100% my fault the entire time. Maybe they looked at my account and wanted to keep me as a customer. I use a lot of their stuff. I buy a lot of their 30oz cups and have them customized and sell them on my site. Plus I buy other personal stuff

Or maybe they are just a good company. Either way, Im a happy boy my expensive cooler can still be used for drinkable ice and food.
