I have a gatortail extreme 1854 hull center console with a gtr35 on the back. I don't get as much use out of it and would be more versatile for what i would like to use it for with an outboard (we have a camp in cocodrie, can pull my kids on tubes, fishing in local lakes).

I know i could sell the boat and motor together outright and get another hull but i really like the layout and have it setup like i want.

it's not "rated" for an outboard so i don't know exactly how that works. I assume i'd put a 90hp or 115hp or thereabouts. a GTR35 weighs 275lbs, a 90hp yamaha weight 353lbs.

Is this a bad idea (switching motors)? Are there any places to purchase a second hand outboard other than FB marketplace?

Does the hull have a house power stamp? That's a huge difference in weight and torque. I'd make absolute sure the transom could take it safely.

I've seen many people do it. Some switch the motors out before and after hunting season.

A 70 Yamaha, 4 stroke weights 253.

Transom can take it. I have two friends with prodrive (yes different mfg) hulls, one has 90 merc other has 50 yam which both are on jackplates.

Not positive but don’t think those hulls have a hp rating.

They don’t have hp ratings. The hull is stamped “for commercial use”.

Got me curious just how much these motors weigh and sites show the 90 Yamaha weighs in a 362 lbs.

Call Gatortail. they will happily (for them annoyed) discuss it with you.

4 stroke, I’m sure the 2 stroke in close to gt 35 in weight. The boats made in Springfield (gator track) show sd’s and ob’s on the same boats, not a problemo. I would weld a small piece of angle down the center to you can turn and not slide at higher speeds.

You’ll want to consider the shaft length of whatever you put on there. The hunt deck motor mounts may put an outboard pretty deep. I think a 115 on an 1854 would be a nice setup.

This is a gator trax 1854 with a 115

It looks like a beefier mount than the gator tail

I’ve never really dug into the specifics of it, but I was thinking a 60 Tohatsu or something.

I don’t think it would be as fast as you think, flat boats aren’t very efficient hulls. The 115 would make pulling tubers much better.

I'm not pulling a tube, just fishing

Might have to put this idea on ice. $10.5k for a 70yammy, $11.5k for a 90. New.

What y’all think the market value is for a 35gtr with controls?

That all depends on the hours, mods, etc. Brand new 40hp tiller is 10K. I almost went back to a GTR when I was looking for a boat. I decided I didn't want to noise and wanted something easy for the kids to drive. But I loved my two GTRs.
