I don’t think it will be carte blanche approval to throw corn on the ground, it will still need to be mechanically spread somehow. The rationale against piling feed up has always been that it encourages aflatoxin which is deadly to turkeys, CWD is the new kid on the block. MS game wardens and judges are more than happy to lean on their own subjective criteria to determine if they think it constitutes a pile vs spread depending on how much they like to turkey hunt.

If you ban feeding across the entire state, people will just continue to do it like they did for 30 years before it was illegal, and since they’re already outlawing they’ll just throw it on the ground. This at least gives people who insist on it the ability to do it somewhere that there’s lower risk associated with it and allows at least some kind of targeted approach to enforcement.

It got there from people transporting deer carcasses or live deer for pens. You won’t hear me argue baiting doesn’t increase the rate at which it spreads, but that’s why the management zones are massive relative to the amount of confirmed cases, large enough to reduce transmission due to young buck dispersal. I just think the effect a statewide ban would accomplish is overblown, at best you’re just slowing the inevitable. I wouldn’t lose sleep over it either way.

Even if CWD weren’t a thing, my views on feeding and baiting wouldn’t change.

The fact that they are a misfolded protein rather than a living organism makes this discussion very different. I don't know about 1,000, but it's apparently a very long time. I am guessing we would all die before a current prion became inactive or whatever the proper word it for them.
