One could always put broken mirror pieces on top of the blinds...

Locals are assholes. I always scouted the evening before and tried to stay away from the blinds. That's damn near impossible bc certain places you can see 20-30 blinds within 300 yard radius.

. I guess it is like old folklore but I never went looking for trouble I had a hard enough time dealing with the trouble that found me. I often wondered if it was really like the stories I grew up hearing.
I grew up hunting rice fields in SW la and marsh in SE la..
I made one hunt there in 88, I was with someone who claimed we were hunting his uncles blind - either he lied or had the wrong blind because at about 45 minutes before shooting time - we got run out.. I was quiet - and sat it out till we got threatened - I don't do conflict well - I have two speeds - sit it out or WIN....
The guy running us out knew the guy that brought me and told him he was going to go to his deer camp and burn it down - at that point - me and the the other tag along were ready to go - 3 ducks simply weren't worth it.. we moved still killed 9 ducks... I haven't been back since.
two years later I ran into the guy that ran us off at a field trial - he recognized me - because of my dog - proceeded to tell me that I was lucky that we left or he would have whipped my arse right there on the water....
I politely invited him to lunch with me at the frost top in laplace which was off the grounds of the trial in the spillway. I planeed on throttling him but he told me many stories of run ins over HIS blinds - yes plural on catahoula...I actually believed they were HIS blinds.....
during lunch I made it clear that if he ever threatened me or any one with me I would not be so passive and I would eliminate the threat swiftly and decisively and simply saying I was lucky - was enough to set me off.. Last thing I told him was my man..you are the one that got lucky that day..
An old friend of my family was the guy running the trial - at the post trial beer drinking and BS he was telling said fella about our run in.... bright and early the next morning he came and apologized to me..Don't know what the old man told him but whatever he told him sure got the point across that I was the wrong guy.

Or corn in their dekes, placed by a very timely call to the USFWS. If the state won't handle their asses, the feds love them some migratory game bird baiting arrests.

Owned by the state? The blind, that is...
How is the blind owned by the state?

Does anyone here have a credible story or first hand knowledge of an arse whipping or blind burning?

The one time I went with my uncles, at like 13 years old, I witnessed them shooting other hunters decoys with a .22. They went to "talk" to them later that morning, but left me in the stand
And I can assure that my uncles burned many a blinds. They used to "guide" out there. Not sure if they do it anymore. I haven't seen them in +15 years.
I have no idea if Catahoula is still like this today, but in the late 80s/early 90s, it was just like the stories you heard.

What side of the fence are your uncles on? Local rednecks or ciceros?
Who is doing the burning? the locals? or the public?
Seems to me it would be in the interest of the public to be the ones doing the burning, not the locals...

The state owns the lake...

I think y'all are missing the point it doesn't matter what the law says the locals out there run the show.

Ok so it seems like this is where we stand
1. Cat Lake is owned by state (ie public)
2. It used to be owned by private rednecks
3. Rednecks built blinds on Lake and claim them as private
4. ciceros build blinds on lake/hunt redneck blinds
5. rednecks burn down cicero blinds/shoot at them/etc
6. LDWF/state police does nothing
So it sounds like there are a group of blinds that never get burnt down cause they are "owned" by the rednecks
My questions is, why don't the ciceros burn down the "redneck palace blinds" that have been there for decades? Other than the threat of an arse beating. Anyone can whip someone's arse right on back.
let me know if I confused the situation anywhere.

People still fight over blinds now with the lake being high and holding more divers than anything?
