always buy a bigger gun safe than you need. I learned that the hard way, now I "have" to go get another safe.

saw the safe at academy during black friday when it was on sale. wasn't overly impressed. its big for the value but only rated for 30 minutes, not exactly a top tier safe but still probably an excellent buy for $600

my buddy did alot of research before buying this safe from academy. calling manufacturers and locksmiths etc. This safe is rated for 30 mins in 1200F temps. The typical house fire only reaches 1100F avg house fire temps. so you should have a little longer than 30 mins. if you live in a densely populated area, it wont take long for the fire dept to arrive and start putting out the fire rapidly decreasing the fire temp. so in reality 30mins at 1200F is more than enough for MOST people.

I bought this safe last year at this same price at a Tractor Supply here in central Texas. It's decent quality and big and heavy enough to minimize chances of theft which is my main concern. As pointed out in other threads, always buy bigger than what you currently need plus recognize that you won't actually get anywhere near 64 guns in it.

thing is, if my house catches fire, i may eat a sammich and kick over the gasoline on the way out the garage before the FD is called so i need that safe to go long time in fire.

Then bolt it down. You can move a 1000 pound safe around easily with $20 worth of furniture dollys and straps from Harbor Freight. I don't think it would take anyone more than 5 minutes to get a safe from inside your house to outside, less if it was more than one person.

Not that they need to, even big expensive safes can be broken into in no time with a big pry bar. It's easier if they can push it over.

Also, placement matters. It should be in a corner with the hinges away from the wall, it makes it harder to pry open.

Might want to note that this is online only with a $150 shipping charge. So the real price is $650.
