Can you catch fish with the motor running?

I don’t have a trolling motor on my pontoon boat that we fish from but I like to run up and down canals and fish under or near docks. Haven’t tried it in this boat yet.

What are my chances of catching fish if I’m just idling along with the boat motor?

Sure, it's called trolling.

That’s what I do out in the river but wind plays such a factor with these boats

Sure but odds are the TM won't be running while you're actually fishing.

ETA: Look up spot lock

We've caught plenty redfish off the bank trolling with the big engine in deep canals in the Biloxi Marsh

Also when bowfishing it doesn't seem like the fish spook until you get right on top of them

This and I've caught trout jigging the Causeway using the big motor as a trolling motor. It is not ideal, but it will work in a bind when you have a boat like i use that is always breaking.

I know a lot of folks that troll out at the trestles and use the boat motor to do so. They don't seem to have any issues with catching fish.

The key is how are you gonna steer and fish at the same time. I get tired messing with my saltwater trolling motor, and it’s two feet from me
