Bullet Recommendations for 350 Legend, Updated

Hey guys. In the past few years i've developed arthritis in my dominant right. It's not as bad shooting suppressed guns so I decided to get a new barrel for my 308 Win Savage Striker handgun so I could fit it w/ a suppressor. While working on the gun recently, I was reminded that I have a second Striker handgun that I've never hunted w/. I bought it years ago for a project that subsequently fell through. I deer hunt in AR where they replaced the early muzzleloader season w/ an "Alternative Gun Season." Basically any straight walled cartridge qualifies for the special season. Last year I killed a doe w/ my 7.5" barrel Redhawk in 44 Mag, but was disappointed w/ bullet performance. So the thought crossed my mind while working on the Striker, "Why not get a 350 Legend barrel for the other Striker?" Well, I found a 16.5" ER Shaw barrel on sale and bought it. It should arrive in time for the early season, although it'll prob be close. All of this to ask what bullet do you recommend I handload. I'll not be shooting factory ammo. The "bullet failures" I've read of w/ the 350 Legend seem to be mainly Winchester factory ammo. I'm leaning to 170-180 grain bullets. Range should be inside 100 yards. Our deer are small, averaging 105# for does and 150# for bucks. I'm not adverse to flat/round nose bullet. I do not anticipate any subsonic loads. Personal experience w/ a bullet is highly valued. Whatcha got??

I’m loving my 350 Legend. So fun and easy on the shoulder to shoot. I bought it because I hunt both Arkansas and Louisiana, so I can use it in both states early season now like you mentioned. Not a handload and it’s irrelevant to your preference, but my CVA Scout actually loves factory Winchester Deer Season XP® 150 grain. That round is deadly in my gun. Leaves a nice hole all the way through, and deer never run far after being hit. That round is pretty easy to find on the shelf too. That’s just my personal preference. It’s never failed me. My scout loves the Deer Season XP too. Tried 170gr Hornady and it threw them everywhere. I still want to try the Barnes Harvest because it shoots good in everything else I got. I’ve heard good things about Bear Creek copper bullets if you are strictly handloading

Look up maker bullets. They are absolutely devastating and if you call with any questions or concerns Mr Paul is more than helpful.

I can also recommend the Winchester Deer Season XP 150 grain. I know you said you won't shoot factory ammo, but I've had zero issues using these rounds on deer in the Texas hill country.
My first AR build in 2018 was a 350 Legend. It's really fun to shoot, and it's deadly on whitetail from that range. It's not suppressed but will be soon.

Actually the 350 should be fairly mild. I've not hunted w/ the 308 for a number of years, but decided to resurrect it w/ a new barrel and suppress it. I've developed arthritis in my dominant hand from years of shooting handguns, but suppressors have helped. The 260 Remington and 284 Win had significant recoil, but were better w/ a suppressor. My 7-08 Rem sat the bench last year since it's barrel is too thin to thread. I considered shooting the 7-08 last year w/ my non-dominant hand, but had a hard time getting used to it. .

Really? I don’t have experience with that round but being a rifle cartridge I’d expect a kick. My 44mag revolver kicks and I’m pretty sure 350legend is more powerful. 308 sounds ridiculous from a handgun!

Let me make a clarification....fairly mild compared to the others. The 350 will prob use a 160-180 gr bullet w/ about 20 grains of powder. Your 44 Mag uses a much heavier bullet at 240 gr and prob more powder. In addition, your 44 Mag revolver is prob much lighter than the Striker/350 Legend package. Heavier bullet, more powder and lighter package=more recoil.
When I get home, I'll put up a video of the unsuppressed 308.

I have a 350 Legend rifle. The best deer round that I have found is the soft point Remington. Looking at the ballistics it was one of the better performing rounds.

S&W makes a 350 legend revolver
From best I can tell the recoil between the .44 mag and .350 legend should be very similar.

Hey guys, thanks for all the good suggestions. I posted the same question on a handgun hunting forum I frequent and one of the posters volunteered to send me a "starter pack" of 350 Legend bullets. I was expecting a handful of bullets, but got a total of #170 bullets, including #40 each of some bullets I was going to buy: Sierra 155 gr Pro Hunter, 165 gr Hornady FTX and 170 gr Hornady Interlock. I'm holding off on buying any bullets for now as I expect to find a winner or two from the "starter pack."

I’ve shot one doe with my .350 legend, and it was using the Winchester 150 grain XPs
No pass through, but I shot her at 20 yds and she didn’t take another step
