So right now I'm looking at a Falcon Coastal 7' Medium for sure and trying to decide on the reel

Great rod, I have one and love it. Reel, get a 2500 sized Shimano, Okuma or Penn and be done with it. Spend over $50 but no more than $100 is necessary. Rinse after each trip in saltwater.

Okuma has recently gotten a little better, but I would still consider a shimano/quantum/penn. I just feel like Okuma struggles in the durability department

Stuff I've read make it seem like their just about up to par with Shimano, at least with their nicer reels. Garcia makes nice spinning reels too, but they cost too much. Other than the 500 the cardinals are kinda sucky for saltwater and won't last.

I am sure there are reels comparible to shimano but I just can't make myself try them. I use to break down my calcuttas once a year. They are so smooth if kept properly. Another great thing about shimano is if you do have a problem you ship it off to shimano with a check for $12 and it comes back like new. I am not sure if it is still like that b/c I haven't done it in over 5yrs.

IMO Shimano and Okuma do not belong in the same sentence. If you're doing a lot of fishing I don't feel like you'll get much life out of Okuma's reels

I don't fish much salt so most of my gear is baitcasters, I won't argue with you about spinning reels.

I will say, though, that Garcia's baitcasters are just as good as Shimano, regardless of what the fanboys say.

I think I'm going to pick up a new curado and possibly an allstar rod when I get my tax return. The chronarch is nice but I don't like how it is white.

The chronarch is better than the curado. If you're willing to buy the chronarch get it. If the color bothers you that much get a Revo SX instead.

After you get it, please do not post any pics or tell us how awesome it is. Thanks in advance.

I want one. But I don't need it. I need you to act like it sucks so I get a crankbait rod instead of a reel I don't need. I know you understand.

myth, the new chronarch might be better than the new curado(which is basically the old citica)...but the new chronarch is essentially the cu200 series curado, and u can still find the curado for around $130 on the interwebs

wish Ida known that, I'd like to get both but don't do enough deep cranking to justify getting the 845

Yea I was talking about the new models. I'm trying not to buy anymore gear for a while, but when I inevitably get the bug I'll probably get another 200 E7 on eBay
