Started last week here in the hill country. Yesterday I was looking for sheds and I find 2 fresh shedded antlers . I knew by the small amount of blood on the end that was attached to the buck . Cool part was when I looked up 5-6 bucks were standing 20-30 yards away. A couple were missing 1 antler . They started to move away when one puts his head way back to were the one antler is touching his back . Boom , it fell off . That’s the first I’ve actually seen come off .
I’d heard that when one falls , the buck try’s to get the other off . I guess he fells lopsided. The one that fell off matched one I had just picked up . A really nice 9 point on my birthday.

I’m at work in ICU. Didnt bring them with me .
Seriously when I get home I’ll try to post . I have a large garbage can of sheds . Some big boys and some I give to a couple friends for knives. The spikes I let my dogs chew.

I need to train my dog to find sheds and just go walking around the woods.

They're still on em here at the chemical plant in Geismar I'm at. Crazy to see solid bucks every morning and evening in and out of this place.

We have two Corgis and I’m hoping they’ll pick it up . That’s why I give them the spikes . I’m sure my Chesapeake’s would have been easier.

the only sheds we ever find are the ones that end up in a tractor tire when plowing a field or food plot around the lease. Pretty much impossible to find them on the st. landry/ avoyelles parish line in the 8 foot tall palmettos.

much easier and less time consuming than you think, I trained my BIL’s 12yo lab that was a “couch potato biscuit eating never hunted or retrieved anything in his life worthless POS” into a “this is fun, get me out of this house antler finding machine” in less than 6 months. Amazing how many they find that we walk right past...

It should be easy to rain my Corgis since they’ve chew on them since puppies. The grass is short in the pastures and woods. I can see the white when the sun hits them . I also find arrow heads .

I’ve been watching the cams we have still going and they’re still intact in south Texas. Should be dropping soon.

We find way more than we’d like this way

SE Texas at a field site. Found a matching set (11pt, around 4.5 years old) the first weekend in February. Was seeing young bucks still with antlers last week. Haven't checked cameras yet this week to see what's up.

Finally got down to the ranch and found a good one

Also found a casualty of the rut. Thankfully it was only a 2nd year buck

We got a beagle pup from deer stock last year that I worked with on blood trailing. She picked it up very well and found the 2 deer I put her on this past season.

We have our annual meeting the last weekend of this month and I'm gonna bring her and make a few passes through the woods to see if she can find a shed or 2. She lays around and chews on antlers all day, so maybe she'll half-arse know what she's looking for.

We had a big goofy 5 point I'd like to find. I have pictures of him up until 2 weeks ago and he still had them on his head.
