Mix them
But if only using one I would go with buck busters so you have a variety vs just oats, and a hard freeze can mess up your oats
I have used BFO as well as “co-op” oats and not noticed any difference contrary to the claims, and BFO is about 3-4x the cost

Holy crap. Yeah. No.

Any blend that you buy in a bag is nothing but regular seed mixed together. You can do the same thing for half the price by just buying it separately and mixing it together yourself in the hopper.

Plus there's almost always some stupid stuff in there that you don't need or wouldn't want.

Stick to one or two cereal grains (wheat or oats) plus one or two clovers (crimson, arrowleaf, Durana) and let that be it

This is good advice. I've switched to just wheat and oats and clover in most plots. I'll make a pea patch every now and then, but otherwise mixing your own simple blend saves a ton of money.

Been using buck busters the last few years with good success. All about saving money tho. Where can I get wheat, oats and clover to mix?

Wheat , oats and a little clover. I do like the buckbusters if I was buying a mix. I saw it at the coop yesterday for $50 a sack.

Local feed store here mixes up 20lbs bags that they they sale. It has, wheat, oats, rye, 2 clovers, iron peas, rape/brassica and turnips.

It seems to do well. I planted very late last year (couldn't find a disc for the tractor until late Oct).

I planted last weekend and the farm supposedly got a good rain on Monday and forecast for rain this weekend.

We shall see.

any feed n seed will have plenty, but it comes down to how much you are planting, as most of the mentioned are sold in 50 lb bags, so if you are only doing an acre or 2 you are better getting one of the pr made mixes, I am guessing you have to plant 3+ acres to make it worthwhile to mix your own,

I plant 7-8 acres total and mix my own and have bulk fertilizer mixed in per soil sample and put into a seed cart that the CO OP rents and spread it all out at once, it is so much easier than the old way of using broadcast seeder and 50 lb bags

The biologist that came out when asked about what to plant said he had a different view than his co workers, he said they split amino acids and proteins and argue among themselves a about what is the beat to plant, his recommendation is if what you are planting is growing (but no rye grass) and they are eating, keep doing it

It is very dominant and will choke out all the good things you are planting and offers little to no nutritional value to the deer

It’s not rye grass that you should be planting.

It’s cereal rye
